Hi everybody !

I've downloaded VMWare files from demonoid. It's the Xelabo Hackintosh who works fine on my Windows 7 RC1. Just a little bit slow. I've downloaded iLife and iWork '09 from Guiks (an french private tracker). I'm running 10.5.5 and I've tried to install iWork. At the begging, he started annoying me with silly messages like " You must have Mac Os X 10.5.6 or further to process this installation". But I've put it in a corner and it wasn't bothering me anymore. But when I wanted to install iLife, same thing, I've put it in the corner but when I had to choose the disk to install there was a white exclamation mark with red foregroud and octogonal shape. When I've selected this disk it said to me " iLife can't be installed in the selected disk because you haven't Mac Os X 10.5.6 or further" :P I was upset !! Here is the point : Can I do the upgrade to 10.5.7 without any problems ? In case of emergency, I have a few snapshots and I can do a Revert to snapshot. I'm scared that it'll do Kernel Panic at the starting with the grey apple and the thing spinning round. So tell me if if I can do this upgrade without problems because I'd really like to test iLife, the videos I saw on Apple website were very exciting !!

I would suggest following a walk through on how to update using the 10.5.7 combo update. because u can/will get kernel panic if not done correctly.

alternatively you can find the 10.5.6 delta update. its a smaller download. but the same as above applies it must be done correctly to avoid kernel panic.

and if your in wayyyy over your head. download a new osx86 installer thats atleats 10.5.6 and reinstall from scratch. that way you can install a kernel that wont give you and flack.

Ok, seems easy. But one thing I didn't understand how do I patch my DSDT. And what is a DSDT ?

Edit 5/15/09 : It doesn't seems easy !! I've tried the DSDT patch but it fails... I give up ! Could please tell me a link where I can get 10.5.6 or 10.5.7 VMWare Image ? I didn't found it on mininova and demonoid.

Hello!!

I have a hp dv9000 with intel cpu and I used xxx 10.5.6 leo install cd.I did'nt know what's going to happen if I update to 10.5.7 so I went for it...

It seams everything working same as with the previous version osx.(I had to restart it with power button after the update but it's working smooth)I have read about risk to update. It might mess up my laptop but so far no overheat or kernel problem.I really like this version however some hardware still missing like wireless, webcam so I will see I do not want to say it is a good idea to update so be carefull 'cos this update controls the cpu power, increases the battery life 25% that's what I heard. If you have any quiestion drop me a message.

I was having trouble upgrading to 10.5.6 from 10.5.5 since I really wanted the features of iLife09. There is a way of installing iLife09 without upgrading from 10.5.5 and below.

If you don’t have 10.5.6 and you don’t want to upgrade do this :

Go to /system/library/coreservice/SystemVersion.plist Edit this files :

ProductBuild

Version 9E17

ProductCopyright

1983-2008 Apple Inc.

ProductName

Mac OS X

ProductUserVisibleVersion

10.5.6

ProductVersion

10.5.6

Voila,That’s it……………

To change the version of your hackintosh it's quite easy !! Type Terminal in Spotlight, and when its loaded you type cd /Volumes/'(the name of your volume with the quotes')/System/Library/CoreServices and hit enter. Then type nano SystemVersion.plist. When you see nano edit ProductUserVisibleVersion and ProductVersion. When it's done if you have a mac keyboard no problem. But if you have a windows keybord you do Ctrl+X. Warning ! You must hit the Ctrl from the right not from the left (under shift). You put 10.5.6 not 10.5.7 in ProductUserVisibleVersion and ProductVersion. After, you must download the Security Update 2009-001 at http://support.apple.com/downloads/DL777/SecUpd2009-001.dmg. Once installed, do the terminal thing one more time but instead of 10.5.6 put 10.5.7. After that, you will be able to install Safari 4, iLife and more ...

I have a working Xelabo upgraded from 10.5.5 to 10.5.7 that way. But, in addition to the above post, I have used a tool named "Pacifist" in order to manually install the pieces from the Apple combo upgrade DMG.

I have the resulting Xelabo 10.5.7 image already, PM me if you can and want to seed.
