After buying a mac pro, my current laptop who runs ubuntu became bland. So I started consider upgrading it to a macbook.

From looking at other similar x61s computers I can get a tad under what the low spec macbook retails for. and the specs on the macbook is still better than my x61s although weight is higher.

So would you sell the x61s and buy a macbook or turn it into a hackintosh? The only thing I got against it is the glossy screen. Beside that I love working in os x more than in linux (and espesially windows)

There are issues with the X61(s). I've been following them pretty closely as I'd like to buy an X61 and run Leopard on it. Personally, I much prefer the X61 form factor over the MacBook.

The biggest deal breaker for me is the lack of brightness control. Once this is resolved I'll probably buy one off ebay and attempt an install. Let us know what you decide.

I've put the x61 with ultrabase on the second hand marked, and if the price I suggested is accepted I'll go for a macbook. if not, I'm turning it to a hackintosh with dualboot to ubuntu and/or windows7. But I fear my asking is a bit rich for the marked in this light depression, so I'll proceed with making the plan.

The laptop has a 4945 chip, so I'll be on the lookout for Atheros. I see there are draft-n versions out there for ibm laptops. is it worth the double price to get it? I got a airport extreme router who does draft-n.

brightness is not a problem. I barly ever change brightness and if I need to I've probably shut down cause I've moved to a different location so then I just could pop into linux or windows to do so. someday it will be there I guess.
