I have been having problems with using the PPF patch on my Mac OS X. Each time I run it it closes itself for no reason.

Tried it in Win XP and PPF complains that it can't open the 10.4.6 ISO file. I did a verify with disk utility in Mac OS X and the image appears to be ok. In Win XP, Power ISO and Alcohol 120%, however does not see the folders in the 10.4.6 ISO file, just the boot files. Is there anything wrong with the image? I doubt so becos I could install it in VMware via daemon tools.

The background of my attempts to install OS X86 into my SN25P is as follow:

I d/l from demonoid the Jas 10.4.6 posted on 16 Apr 06.

Tried to install but the installer could not see the SATA drive

Proceeded to install into virtual HD via VMware but it refused to boot within VMware due to b0 problem on boot.

Regardless, I transferred the the OS X86 virtual image into my physical hard drive partition, modified my boot.ini and coped the chain0 file to my root directory (C:\)

Boot up Mac OS X, but hung when trying to select the language of my keyboard. Rebooted but never suceeded in reaching that far while booting again.

Noted the following while booting IOATAContoller Device Blocking Bus

Then it just keeps flashing waiting for root device or somthing like that (sori couldn't remember exactly)

I figured it could be due to a faulty AMD patch and read that JAS had released another patch in demonoid on 19 Apr 06.

So I d/l

1. JaS 10.4.6 install dvd ppf (ATI ATA /b0 fix / No need for amd enabler post install )

2. JaS 10.4.6 AMD Enabler

Am trying to patch 1. to my install DVD but am not having any success as PPF keeps crashing and shutting down in OS X

Any help/pointers on how I can overcome this problem would be much appreciated. Thks

BTW, how do I replace the AMD enabler in the ISO with those I d/l from demonoid? [Do I still need to do this?]

My system specs:

AMD 3500+ (Vienna core)

512 mb ram

SATA 300 gb HD (Seagate Barracuda)

Shuttle SN25P (Nforce 4 chipset)

Nvidia Geforce 6600 GT

Thanks all for taking the time to read this.

In my opinion, all you have to do is simply use the "JaS 10.4.6 install dvd ppf" patch on the original "10.4.6 install dvd".

The AMD Enabler is built into that ppf, and (by the reference description) no need to rerun after install.

If you install, make sure you repair the OSX permission.

Regarding the crashing ppf gui: try to patch under windows

Hope this helps.

.....

If I remember correctly, there are some issues with PPF-O-Matic in OS X. Try entering the path to the patch first (the ppf file) and then enter the path to the iso.

If you want to patch the iso in windows, install MacDrive, then try to patch the iso. I don't think that the image is broken, only that windows is unable to read the rest of the files.

I tried that - select the image file 1st, then the iso image. No go, immediately after I click the select button for the target image in PPF, it crashes instantly.

Error log reports a kernel protection failure.

Exception: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (0x0001)

Codes: KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE (0x0002) at 0x00000000

Wonder what's the problem.

Anyway, will try Macdrive and PPF in windows.

*keeping my fingers crossed*

Thanks for your replies, will keep you updated on the outcome.

Patching the JaS 10.4.6 install DVD with the JaS' latest patch was a success.

Now the installation is able to see my SATA drive and all it's partition.

Proceeded with the installation but when when finishing up, it says a reinstallation is needed due to errors.

When I restarted - a huge OS X poweroff page appears with some kernel panic messages.

Am reinstalling now. Will update when it's done.

Thks.

When the installer copies the files, open the installation log console (from the menu), and see what the error message is.

I have the same problem. The installation stops/freezes after 1% done in "Installing Base System Part 1" when I install it to my sata-drive.

It works like a charm when I install it to a ide-drive so i think it's something with the sata-driver.
