According to Google, 8086:0050 is EtherExpress PRO/100 S Desktop Adapter

Do you have an ethernet card?

Can you grab the Info.plist from the Atheros kext and attach it to a message here for me to look at?

ok

so i have a gigabyte GA -8ik1100 motherboard which has a built in ethernet card. the only other card is my graphics card a winfast a310... not ethernet card

when i look in profiler i get ethernet as (8086:1050)

and i have pci104c,8024 this says type ieee1394 open HCI

slot agp

vendor id 104c

device id 8024

i was assuming this was either firewire or graphics?

ok i have attached the plist file.

also i started with clean install and followed the instructions as in the post u linked to. but do i need to add the 10.4.5 IOPCI kext as referred to on page 1?

thanks

Maybe, but first the IO81102Family.kext needs to load without errors.

Go to Terminal and try this command to see what errors are produced:

sudo kextload -t /System/Library/Extensions/IO81102Family.kext

yep it definitely works now

it shows up as airport under network on profiler. but when i click on airport card it says there was an error while gathering this information. but it works fine so i'm not bothered.

thanks so much. this forum is just so cool.

now i'm gonna try and get 1600x1080 resolution on my screen.

and find out why my macbook camera does not work

thanks rammjet

Hello.

Thanks Rammjet for manual, but I still have a problem.

I have wifi card SMCWPCI-G with atheros chipser, parameters pci168c,1a.

I added the string

<string>pci168c,1a</string> to

System/Library/Extensions/IO80211Family.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AirPortAtheros5424.kext/Contents/Info.plist but with no success.

I tried this to clean install of MacOs 10.4.6, and with kext from apple upgrade to 10.4.5.

With fresh install of system I tried kextload and loading ended with success, but after restart I have info no Atheros driver found.

When I get the I080211Family.kext from the apple upgrade to 10.4.5 version, when I try to load kext, I get info about diferent version, but the kext is loaded.

When I restart system I get info that IO80211Family.kext is installed improperly and I should to reinstall system.

What else to do ?

Hey everybody--

I have the Netgear WG311T PCI card, but it doesn't detect at all under 10.4.6-- I followed all the instructions in this thread, but I don't get anything. Can someone who got it working be VERY specific about what is needed?

I bought the card locally and can return it, but it works really well in XP and some people said they got it working.

ok, i will be a bit more clear in my post

i read all the previous posts & couldnt succeed...

the WIFI PCI card NETGEAR WG311v2 i try to install is not even recognized in system profiler

(it is supposed to have an Atheros chipset)

i have 2 other PCI card recognized:

1) Realtek ethernet controller recognised (internet ok with it)

2) Firewire+USB2.0 card recognised

+ my Nvidia Geforce FX5500 AGP graghic card recognised with the PCI cards (thx to MacVidia driver 1.0.8)

For my WIFI PCI card NETGEAR WG311v2

My Vendor ID is: 104c

My Device ID is: 9966

i got confused trying to figure out between the 2 tuto, Rammjet & Sportman....

Ramjeet, please try to drop me a line if you read this....

what do i have to do?? :P

Edit this file:

sudo nano System/Library/Extensions/IO80211Family.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AirPortAtheros5424.kext/Contents/Info.plist

Look for:

<string>pci106b,0086</string>

<string>pci168c,1c</string>

Add this line:

<string>pci168c,13</string>

Make sure you indent these lines to match the ones above it.

i understand i have to change the "pci168c" by "pci104c" and

<string>pci168c,13</string> by <string>pci104c,9966/string>

but what about the first of the three lines??

Also previously i tried to replace IOPCIFamily.kext with the one from 10.4.5 with pacifist, it did not work

do i have to do it anyway??

If its not too much to ask ramjeet, could you please drop me a tuto for my device+vendor ID

and all the edit/command to do??

I got lost swappin...

You guys on this forum are saviours!!

If anybody succeeded in installing the same card could drop a line as well......

Forgive my english, i'm french.....

I am now very familiar with the basic OS install... over 10 times, not counting anymore..lol

The process for enabling an Atheros device is exactly the same as the Broadcom device (as in the guide you were reviewing) except for the file that you edit.

For my WIFI PCI card NETGEAR WG311v2

My Vendor ID is: 104c

My Device ID is: 9966

Vendor ID 104c is Texas Instruments.

A Google of WG311v2 says the chipset in this device is Texas Instruments.

There is no driver solution for a Texas Instruments chipset.

thanks a lot Ramjeet............

So thats why!!!

i googled and found a site where it said it was an atheros chipset, but i trust you!!

I am really unlucky.....

Cause i have a phase22 terratec sound card which is supposed to work under macosx,

the macosx driver i download from terratec site doesn't work

no driver for intel base i suppose... only for the PowerPC...

any hints on this anybody??

I have another wifi device,

a netgear USB2.0 dongle WG111T

usbid: 1385:4250

Is that installable?? It is supposed to have an atheros usb chipset....

and 2 PCMCIA cards for the laptop:

Netgear MA401 (chipset PrismII) is that installable?? any known driver???

and a no brand PCMCIA card 06M-WE302 (Chipset : ZyAIR B-100) is that installable?? any known driver???

thanks again for your time & help!!!

The ZyAir B-100 has a Prism 2 chipset also. There is no driver for Prism 2 - so the Netgear MA401 is out too.

You might get the WG111T USB working.

Follow the Broadcom guide ( http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=23684 ) except edit the Atheros file:

sudo nano /System/Library/Extensions/IO80211Family.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AirPortAtheros5424.kext/Contents/Info.plist

thx rammjet,

sorry to be so insistant, i'm a newbie to mac...

i tried but i am not sure i do the manip correctly, it did not work

I edited the Atheros file like this:

<string>pci106b,0086</string>

<string>pci1385,1c</string>

<string>pci1385,4251</string>

in system profiler the dongle WG111T is recognized thru the usb port

product ID is 4251

vendor ID is 1385

Manufacturer is Atheros

did i edit it right?? because its not coming as choice in my network config..

thx rammjet,

i must be cursed!!

i have 4 wifi devices + 1 in the laptop, and none is compatible!!! AAAAAArgh

same with my graphic card on the laptop: ATI X1600 mobility, no borisbadenov method for me!!

and my PCI sound card terratec phase22!!! no driver for intel base!!

It's still very gratifying having the 2 OS running on the same machine...

  • 1 month later...
I have a WG311 (without the T) and can't find it in System Profiler under PCI Cards. In Windows I got Vendor: 11AB and Device: 1FAA

Will I have to change IOPCIFamily.kext with the one from 10.4.5 (I use 10.4.7)?

For wireless, the kext is IO80211Family.kext not IOPCIFamily.kext.

However, vendor id 11AB is Marvell. There is no driver solution for Marvell wireless on OSX.
