JonBOY Posted May 1, 2006 Share Posted May 1, 2006 I recently managed to use my geniune PowerMac G4 to prepare a HDD containing the deadmoo image of Mac OS X 10.4.1 The PC in which I run this drive features a top line gigabyte m/board, pentium 4 3.0 Ghz 800 Mhz FSB, 1 gig dual channel DDR RAM and a PCI-Express 256 MB DRR nVidia GeForce 6600 video card. Following the successful drive prep with my Mac, I eventually sorted out how to get the drive to boot ok and followed the next set of instructions on how to improve performance (this is the guide I used http://www.osx86.theplaceforitall.com/howto/). I re-installed the original kernel for SSE3 support, removed the 'kext' file in extensions that slows Tiger down when not run on a genuine intel Mac, as well as replaced the CoreGraphics file. Whilst I did notice some performance improvments assicated with each of these steps, I must say that overall I'm still finding my OS X set up to be disappointing. Although I can open SSE3 apps like iTunes, the only way I was able to was to select the 'open with rosetta' option for these apps. I thought the whole point of the kernel fix was to enable you to run these natively...?? Anyeways, I was wondering if my lacking overall performance was due to the fact that I used an older version of tiger (10.4.1)? and could I expect to see better performance if I ran 10.4.5. At this stage I cant run Quatz extreme and the system itself shows generally slow responsiveness. I also cant install my modem. I would really like to be able to run OS X on my PC at home but right now its a far cry from the flawless running I'm acustomed to on my PowerMac at work. quixos Posted May 1, 2006 Share Posted May 1, 2006 fast answer. 10.4.1 is too old and primitive. you will have a much much better time from 10.4.3 on up. getting any version from 10.4.3 you will be upgradeable to 4.6 with very little problem. What would be the best version for me to try? if you could please include any specifics in the name that'd be greatly appreciated, ie such as 'deadmoo' which was the last one I tried.
