Ok, here's the dilly...

I'm running 10.4.4 on a Dell 4300 (P4 1.7, 640MB PC133, HD1 XP, HD2 OSX, SB Live, CMI8738, USB2.0 PCI, Linksys working with tulip NIC). Using Dlink G122 on USB for net, haven't played with printers yet...

So here's my problem. I have 2 DVD-RW drives 1) Benq 1640 and 2)Aopen 1616, but I can never have both of them recognized as burners. here's what I've tried...

Master Benq / Slave Aopen - Benq recognized under ATA, not recognized under burner, unable to read discs. Aopen able to do all, and F12 opens Aopen

Master Aopen / Slave Benq - Same as above

The only way I can get the Benq to be identifed as a burner and to be able to successfuly ready discs and to open with F12 is to physically unplug the aopen drive from inside (I've tried disabling it under BIOS to no avail). So this is driving me batty!

Anyone experience the same or have any ideas? Thanks

And before anyone asks, i did change the jumpers appropriately.

how do you have them hooked togehter?

do you have them daisy chained to each other or off of your harddrives or seperate?

try switching each from slave and master position on the cable or what i like to do is use them as slaves off of the harddrives. it took me more than 2 hours doing the same for harddrives in some of my systems.

Hmm, that's an idea! Although I'm not sure how the heck I'm going to pull it off, my cables are nowhere long enough to pull that off..

Hmm. I seem to have the same problem as the threadstarter as well: will be tinkering with the system since I'm more free now.

My configuration is:

Secondary Master: TDK CD-RW/DVD combo

Secondary Slave: Benq 1620

My Benq does not get detected, but the TDK does.

ive also found switching to plextor s-ata burners work wonders! :D ive installed them in most of my comps they are real nice, fast, and quiet.

oh and they are completely mac compatible. no patchburn needed.
