Most likely a problem with your laptop's display, not the OS. I had a similar problem on an old Dell Latitude laptop from ~2000. The LCD was essentially broken. Fixing it usually involved punching the monitor any number of times until it disappeared :D.

probably a refresh rate or resoluition that is not compatible with your display,

 

hit f8 an darwin bootup and try this

-x "Graphics Mode"="1024x768x32"

 

if that works then you know its a resoltuon or rate problem and that can be set in the OS

Yes it is a normal refresh rate problem!

 

If we knew what machine you had maybe somebody can help you fix it!?

It wouldn't as he forgot the refresh rate!!!

if you know your current machines resolution from WinBlows

-x "Graphics Mode"="1400x900x32@60"

the important part is the @60

 

or use a program called SwitchResX(google for it)
