topcatuk
Im a bit of a noob and stuck because of all the different options, methods and boot loaders around. Ive got a well supported hardware set, with a few different guides around. A Gigabyte GA-G31M-ES2L, Core2Duo and 8400GS. I want to run the setup in the best possible way so that i can run Apple updates and reinstall without hastle. Whats currently the best method to install on modern Intel hardware? Chameleon 2RC? Chameleon 1? eFi Loader, osx86tools, etc? I just want to know which method will give the best results long term, and may allow an update to Snow Leopard without too much breaking. Thanks! Beerkex'd
10.5.6 Retail, Chameleon 2.0 installed on EFI partition. Here's how to make a Chameleon 2.0 boot CD: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=160234 Of course you still need /extra/extensions with patched kexts for your hardware. My process of getting there has been through trial and error and a lot of reading, but I finally have a fully vanilla extensions folder on my iPC 10.5.6 installation. All my patches and modified extensions are loaded from /extra now. So I'm ready to install retail on my P5Q-E, I'm just waiting for a new CPU, HDD and DVD drive to arrive from the US....by boat..*sigh* If you're lucky, someone has posted a guide for installing retail on your motherboard or motherboard family. Your board being Gigabyte maybe there is a working Boot-132 image available for it already. Then just use that. Otherwise, you can do like me and try to get a working 10.5.6 install using any recent OSx86 distro like iPC, ideneb or XxX for example, and upgrade the bootloader to Chameleon 2.0. When its up and running you can start identifying the patched kernel extensions you are using and start moving them to /extra/extensions. Some kexts will not load from there and you'll have to look for other ones or modify the ones you're using. When you've done that, you are ready to build a personal Chameleon 2.0 Boot CD so you can install retail OSX. Good luck.
