I have been at this now for days... Can anyone Help

I have installed , leo4all, iatkos, jas, iDeneb, and Kalway.

I have the latest version of all of them plus some older version.

leo4all, iatkos, jas and iDeneb boot up and install. They all say the install was successful.

But when I reboot my system just loops. it boots to the count down screen then restarts.

If I press f8 and then -v it runs the first page of text then restarts.

I have try different ram configuration I have tried different graphic cards. Two different hard drives (IDE) ( set them to every posable configuration)

But nothing works...

I would just give up and say my system will not install it but one time i installed. It worked the desktop came up I checked to see if all my hardware was work and except for my graphics ever thing was fine so I installed the nvidiavn patch rebooted and the same thing happen.

It would not boot thinking I just put in the wrong patch i reinstalled but it never did boot again.

Any Ideas anyone

Now if you are going to ask me what my hardware is

Its a P4 2.66 on a asus p4p8x board

4 x 512 ddr ram + 2 1g ram (tried in differenet configuration but they are all matched pairs)

Graphics cards lots of 64 meg card all makes and models

To be honest all the parts are used. I begged or bought cheep from local computer stores.

I have a bet with a friend who just bought a mac pro. I can build a mac for less then $500.

Cost so for $185

Thanks for your help

I like your bet :(

first thing to try... boot with the DVD and when asked to type options type rd=id of partition where you installed Mac OS X (will be something like diskXsY standing for Yth partition of Xth disk, disks count from 0 partitions from 1. for instance, I have OSX on 2nd partition of 1st disk and it's disk0s2)

if it works this way, you might try coping the kernel from the DVD to the root of your OS X partition and give its name at the boot prompt.. then try a verbose booting and see just WHERE it reboots

Thanks for that but to be honest with you. That answer was just like concord it went straight over my head LoL.

Is there somewhere that explanes what kernels are and kexts and how the choose the right ones and also how to install them.

I just put a dvd in the drive and boot. I don't really know how to install different Kernels.

Thanks

When you boot from the DVD, and the Darwin boot loader appears, press F8 quickly and at the "boot:" prompt, type "rd=diskXsY" (without quotes) where the X and Y are integer values based upon the number of the number of storage/media read/write devices connected to the MOBO (whether internal or external devices), noting that X starts from 0 and Y starts from 1.

For example, the first volume on the first internal HDD will have the Disk Indentifier of disk0s1, while the second volume will be disk0s2 and so on; a second internal two volume HDD would have disk1s1 and disk2s2.....

first thing to try is grab the mach_kernel file from the CD and copy it to your hard disk

just open up a Terminal and type cp (space), then drag the CD icon onto the Terminal window, append a / if missing and type mach_kernel (space) / (ENTER)

try to reboot now.. if it still fails just try a verbose boot and SEE the exact error messages. then report them here and somebody will certainly help you out :-D

I fixed the problem....

I thought I would put the fix here just in case anyone else as the same think.

The problem was caused by my hard Drive lead. I was using a ultra ATA cable.

But my hard Drive was set to master and not cable select.

My DVD Rom was set to slave.

I Don't Know why this caused the problem !!!!

But I change the cable for a old IDE cable and all works well..

Thank for all you Help.
