sgunes
Hello: I was wondering if there is any consensus about the best/most compatible i7 motherboard for a hackintosh? There are 2 major treads about the Asus P6T Deluxe and the Gigabyte EX58 UD5 with about 20+ pages each in the Genius forum. The price difference is only about $50 (not a major concern). The eVGA and DFI seem to have sound problems. I would like to know which one is easier to turn into a hackintosh and has the best compatibility? Thanks. WilliamsEph97
I was also recently deciding between these 2 boards. I went with the Gigabyte because the install seems slightly easier with the script. sgunes
I was also recently deciding between these 2 boards. I went with the Gigabyte because the install seems slightly easier with the script. I have the same inclination. I also like that the gigabyte has a couple more SATA ports. My only hesitation: will Apple do something in Snow Leopard to disable the hackintoshes? Even if they do, you will still have a perfectly functional 10.5.x system. Just because Apple updates it does not mean that you have to. Look at all those people who are still using XP because they prefer it to Vista. I have been using Macs since OS 6, and would never update until I read reports that everything was working fine. I usually wait till x.1 or x.2 just to make sure. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/160139-best-i7-mb/#findComment-1122809 Share on other sites

It seems to use NVidia 200 series graphics adapters natively with it (as per Netkas). That would make it possible to use state of the art MB, CPU, memory and graphics in the new machine. Others pointed out that whatever Apple does will be in software and the geniuses here will figure out a way to undo that (even if I have to pay for an EFIX like USB dongle). I was looking forward to the new octocore MacPro but with a decent CPU (NOT the 2.26GHz) it comes to about $4500 even with educational discount. Apple way overplayed their hand. I can get the GB+920OC+12GB+GTX295+OCZ Vertex boot drive system with close to that performance at 1/3 the price and my Thermaltake Armor case can fit in 3x as many hard drives. Thanks for the reassurance. I will now wait for the best NVidia card that is compatible with it (275 vs 285 vs 295). Agree. 10.6 will hopefully offer a huge speed increase for some apps, but even without that speed increase most apps still run fast enough especially on a i7, so it would not be the end of the world if you had to stay with 10.5 for the life of the machine (although more likely it would be a month or two before 10.6 was hacked to work on non apple hardware).
