pho bos
Hello, I read a lot of messages in the Forum about eeepc's and OSX on it. I own a eeepc 900 and my goal is it to get a OSX Netbook witch is almost full functional. I spend a lot of Time with searching for solutions and more time with trying things that was not confirmed form the eeepc 900. Thats the reason for an own Thread for the eeepc 900. So when you post a solution for a unsolved Problem keep the Topic in mind. Solutions only for eeepc 900 and Leopard. So first my System specs: eeepc 900 (Celeron) 1 GB Memory 16 GB runcore SSD + 4 GB original internal SSD (also runcore) 60 GB external 2,5" USB Drive (main Testing Image) Belkin USB Bluetooth Adapter Dell 1390 Wifi mini PCI Card Start your Engines pease (Installation) Thanks to djoser for his great Thread about iDeneb 1.3 (Leopard 10.5.5) on the 702 http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=138642 I dont tried the iDeneb 1.3 installation because there is a 1.4 out but in the Thread vom djoser you could find an Update installation for iDeneb 1.4. Give it a try now. First Thing: Don't use the iDeneb 1.4 DVD with an external DVD on you eeepc. Many peope reported Problems getting OSX working with direct DVD installation. I used a Thinkpad T61 an a Macbook to Install iDeneb on my 60GB USB HD. Both Systems works OOTB. Note: After the Installation the T61 don't start with the fresh OSX on the USB HD. But this is no Porblem. During the Installation Process you must choos the following Options from the iDeneb Installation menu: Chipset -> ICHx Fixed Kernel -> Kernel 9.5.0 Voodoo Fix -> Seatbelt Fix Fix -> BatteryManager Fix Video -> Intel GMA 900 Select also OSX86Tools and KextHelper for further customizing your System With these Settings the following Hardware/Features works OOTB: Display with 1024x800 and Hardware Acceleration (Quicktime and VLC works) Cam USB2.0 SD Card slot System Starttime About 35-40 seconds (on my Runcore SSD) Bluetooth and external USB Wifi (must be compatible with OSX) ...Things that dont work OOTB (on my Installation): Internal Sound with the Realtec AC662 rev1 Original Wifi Sleep After the Installation has finished you must boot your eeepc with the USB HD (or another install Medium) and finish the OSX install. For the first start you could use the -v -f options to see posible error messages on the screen. In the thread from djoser about the 702 you could find a link for a Problem with the AppleDecrypt during start. Use the kext File in his Thread to solve the Problem and install it with the KextHelper So your System sould now run on an USB HD or USB Stick. Shrinking Leopard and Installing it on my interna 4GB SSD was no easy work an further Installations of Software is a Problem. Second SSD's of the eeepc are to slow. Best Solution is to buy a Runcore SSD > 8GB. Works Great and fast (Only with BIOS greater than 0802) To get your InstallSystem onto your eeepc you should use SuperDuper and the Chameleon Bootloader. (use Goolge to find them) If you copied the System to your eeepc you have a normal Leopard on it and I do all Software Updates with no Problems. Installed Skype, Adium, Firefox, Transmission, iTerm, Vodafone Mobile Connect, Keynote from iWork 09 and Twitterrific. All the Software works and the System has no kernel Panics. Also Photo Booth with the internal Cam works OOTB (you sould check your BIOS settings if you have no Cam) The lack of wifi, sound and sleep is the greates Problem for the eeepc 900. I tried a lot of diffrent solutions from the forum and other resources with no luck. So if you have further Informations for eeepc 900 with Leopard on it feel free to post. And if iDeneb 1.3 or other Hackintosh"Distro" solves more Problems I will give it a try. Thanks for you help Update 30.3.09 I tried two dell 1390 rev a03 wifi cards, both did not work in my eee. I tried BIOS Versions 0804 and 0902. Help is welcome. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/159390-ultimate-leopard-eeepc-900-thread/ Share on other sites
griguol
I have Leopard 10.5.5 running in my eee900 and I was planning to buy a Dell 1390 card to try to solve the wifi problem, but I see you had some problems with those cards and I couldn't find anybody reporting a successful installation of this card on an eee900. Do you think the problem is in the bios?? pho bos
I tried two 1390 Cards with any official BIOS Version, no combination has worked. The eeepc could not powerd on when the card is in the mini pci slot, only a Black Screen, no Power Lamp. Test with an without Battery plugged in. If you have any other working Hardware please post a Message. Is it version 0.2.2?? I want to try it inmediately. Are the mic and phones connectors working for you?? Edit: I have installed v0.2.2 using kext helper, but sound is still not working for me. How should I install it? Do I need to remove the old drivers? How do I do it? Sorry, I am a newbie in mac but I learn fast. pho bos
Confirmed sound is working with the voodooHDA kext Driver. Works great on 10.5.5 and 10.5.6. Any hints about the WLAN problem on the 900. With the kismet workaround i could live but on my eee it doesn't work. Any eeepc 900 User with working WLAN here. griguol
Yeah, I also have the sound working perfectly on my eee900. And the kismet workaround is also working really well for me. I never get kernel panics if I use -v -f in the booting options. pho bos
Did you use 10.5.5 or 10.5.6 on you eeepc 900. The Kismac Soultions didn't work for me. Which Version of KIsmet you are using? griguol
I am using 10.5.5 and Kismac 0.21a [$Revision: 329$], but I am planning to try 10.5.6 today or tomorrow. Sometimes I need to reboot because kismac does not find any channels, but usually it works like a charm. I followed these instructions: 1) Install AirportExtremeUP2008004.dmg, reboot. 2) install the IO80211 networking .kext (IO80211Family_kext_v.2.1.2.zip) with kexthelper 3) repair permissions, in a shell 'diskutil repairPermissions /' 4) reboot with the -f -v on boot, might get a KP, reboot all should be fine. 5) alot of people have been claiming that kismac isn't detecting. a) use the Airport card passive mode, not the airport/airport extreme on. Check advanced settings, I had to change EN1 to EN4 (which was my airport interface) c) scan, channels show up d) quit kismac e) go to your airport fan icon and select your network. DING! working wifi... Good luck. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/159390-ultimate-leopard-eeepc-900-thread/#findComment-1139363 Share on other sites
pho bos
Yea..... I could see SSID's in Kismet but could not connect to any WLAN with the OSX UI. The many tires before left a second Airport interface and I deleted it and now i couldn't see any SSID. Not in Kismet and not in the OSX UI. I feel its only one step.... Kismet Scans and counts the Channels but could not see any network. When I try to use the Airport Card Passive Mode Kismet dont load the driver. In my try where I had success I used the Airoport Exrteme Passive Mode driver. bolger
Hi, I had success bringing iDeneb 1.4 (10.5.6) on my EeePC 900 as described above. I put the installation on an external USB HDD on my iMac because the external DVD did not work on the EeePC. Maybe you can try installing to a USB HDD on any other computer too. I have sound working fine with VoodooHDA, Wi-Fi is a mess with Atheros Card, sometimes the kismet method works, sometimes not, I use external USB wi-fi instead. I really have issues with Quicktime and Front Row. I can play videos well with vlc, but not with Quicktime. Any video runs only for a few seconds, then audio stops and the video stalls. Same with Movie Trailers in Front Row. Can anybody confirm this or has a solution?
