naboo044
Hi everyone, I've read through many of the posts on the various boot loaders and I am having trouble to decide which one to pick. I got the machine booting the Ipc and now want to move to a plain full retail install of 10.5.4. Ultimately I would like to be able to update the os through the standard apple update process like a real Mac rather than having to boot an alternate test os, apply the update, re-apply patches and then reboot into updated os. But I am having trouble determing the best boot loader for this. Many seem to require to apply the apple update manually, then re-apply all kexts and stuff. These posts suggest the updates will work like on a real Mac http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=127330 http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=113288 Are these the best to use? I also see reference to Chameleon with the extra folder. How does the extra folder work? Does the extra folder work like the two boot loader above? By having the 200Mb partition keep the EFI strings and kexts, then on every boot copying over the kexts? I notice that not all Chameleon releases have the extra folder. I would prefer to use Chameleon with the up coming release of the new version. Thanks in advance for your help
warmonked
Yeah, unfortunately many of the guides aren't written for noobs, so it's hard to get up and running. Here are two links (essentially the same process, but some helpful hints) that I found useful: http://menoob.com/2008/09/04/hackintosh-in...il-dvd-on-a-pc/ http://basshead.wordpress.com/2008/10/29/h...eration-part-2/ edit: also, search for hackintosh installs by people with your same mobo. Hackintoshes are picky about the hardware and kexts you use.
hecker
Chameleon with the extra folder is the best way to go. The Extra directory contains all of manipulated (ie. non vanilla) kext files and thus allows us to install the apple updates without the worry of breaking our hand-made configuration. Good luck and welcome to the forum! -hecker
naboo044
great thanks. Is Chameleon able to handle the EFI strings like http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=127330 so that I don't have to redo that after an update? Can any kext go into the extra folder? I assume the Chameleon extra folder is copied at every boot to library folder in the OS-X so as to overwrite anything that may have changed in an update. Is this right?
