I edited smb.conf back to standard and now it finds my computers automaticly. Must remember to use pacifist on that pkg next time

What do you mean by this? I have installed 10.4.7 and applied this patch but it still does not work. Does anyone else have any ideas?

Tim

I found that installing JAS 10.4.6 PPF1 is broke when it comes to mounting CIFS (SMB) shares.

In order to remedy this problem, I first ended up copying the mount_smbfs from the 10.4.5 install CD into

the /sbin folder and then I tried to repair permissions. This is when I noticed that a plain install of JAS 10.4.6 has all sorts of permission problems under the default install. Here is the kicker.. You can't fix these permissions by running Disk Utilty in the running OS for some strange reason, so I ended up booting to the 10.4.5 install DVD and ran disk utility from the menu and used that to repair the permissions. And let me tell you, there were A LOT of files to be repaired.

Once I rebooted, 10.4.6 was able to mount CIFS shares again with no problem... and the OS Seemed to behave itself much much better (and even booted faster) as tons of permissions were screwed up...

To sum up.

1. copy mount_smbfs from 10.4.5 CD

2. Boot off of OS X X86 install DVD and run disk utility from menu to repair all the permissions on the disk

Good luck
