maciekish
Has anyone tried this card for their hackint0sh? LSI say it has EFI drivers but will 10.5.6 support it out of the box? (Thats the kind of solution im looking for) The reason i chose this card is simply because its pretty cheap and LSI looks like a good brand. The card is a HP LSI 3041E 4-Port SAS RAID Controller. Manufacturer P/N EH417AA. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/158557-hp-lsi-3041e-4-port-sas-raid-controller/ Share on other sites
Fix Miller
I'm also looking for a 4 port compatible raid controller. I have a BadAxe2 and a Asus P5w Dh Deluxe Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/158557-hp-lsi-3041e-4-port-sas-raid-controller/#findComment-1149810 Share on other sites
vladthebad
Pretty much anything based on the LSI 1068e will just work. I've got a supermicro AOC-USAS-L8i, works great. Couple friends have L8i's or the 4 internal/4 external port version, also work well. the 3041e should work fine..... just run software RAID0/1 or 10. Personally, I'd prefer a card with mini-sas multi-lane connectors... then just get a cable that goes from that to 4 sata. Less cables strewn about is always a good thing. Fix Miller
actually i'm looking for a 4 port SATA controller that would work under leopard. From what i know about hardware a SAS controller would not work Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/158557-hp-lsi-3041e-4-port-sas-raid-controller/#findComment-1164337 Share on other sites
Fix Miller
i found this one but i'm not sure it works with OSX http://www.satasite.com/4-port-serial-ata-ii-raid.htm it has the Silicon Image SiI 3124-2 chipset Can anyone confirm it works ? vladthebad
Yeah, I have a 3124 based SATA controller... works decently. It is PCI-X though, so unless your motherboard has PCI-X slots, you may be out of luck. I haven't tried it in a 32 bit, 33mhz slot or not..... but Its likely it would work, would just be slower and totally peg the PCI bus. (PCI bus is shared between all PCI devices on motherboard, and has total bandwidth of 133MB/sec. You'll be lucky to get 100MB/sec with a PCI controller) In a PCI-X133 slot: (in MB/sec, the 8 xbench disk tests, from right to left) 2 ES.2 hardware RAID0, silicon image 3124 133.14 124.56 34.55 129.20 3.30 90.83 1.10 33.26 2 ES.2 software RAID0, ICH9 217.23 210.99 33.43 216.37 3.43 132.63 1.08 39.55 Both of those arrays were between 50-75% full. The software RAID0 array was slightly less fragmented, but is still far faster than on the Silicon image card. Software RAID on the silicon image card didn't get much about 175MB/sec, don't know if I was running into card limits, or if the fact that my PCI-X bus is shared with a dualchannel U320 controller was causing a bit of bus contention issues. As far as stability, I'd rather use a SAS card.... and PCI-X LSI SAS cards are cheap. Fix Miller
I guess a SAS would be better, but I just bought two of those: http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.asp?DriveID=459 (Western Digital WD3000GLFS) And, as far as i know, for a SAS controller you need Serial Attached SCSI drives (SAS) . The board I want to use them on is a Intel BadAxe2 http://download.intel.com/support/motherbo.../d7364501us.pdf It has 3 PCI-X slots - (x16/x8/x4 electrical). On what Mobo did you test this ? It would be a shame to have those really fast drives and not use them at full speed. I'm opened to suggestions Edit: After a little documentation I learn that you can use SATA drives on SAS controllers.
