Niall Douglas
I've created a guide to installing Apple MacOS X 10.4.6 HotISO edition which I think is a good bit better than existing install guides out there. http://www.nedprod.com/Niall_stuff/MacOS%20X/ Any feedback would be welcome. Cheers, Niall Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/15825-installation-guide-for-macos-x-1046-hotiso-dvd/ Share on other sites

Cheers, Niall Yeah, good read. But I got a bunch of questions. OK, really - it is well thought out AND literate (now how rare is that?!) So here's some questions: 1. WTF _is_ this HoT ISO release? Meaning, you know this isn't from Apple, TPM, EFI and all that to consider, so it at least has MAXXUSS Wax applied. 2. So what does it appear to be - a JaS or myzar modded DVD that they repackaged? 3. What are the newest file dates? Do any look suspiciously familiar? 4. Any leftover bits of text in it from those on this site who actually MADE the contributions(I think, anyways)? 5. Is it Intel only, or does it have the PPC install as well? 6. Does it have ALL the Intel stuff, or has it been stripped or added to? OK,m-m that's it. And really, you did do a professional job on your install guide. JaS
the 10.4.6 hotiso is just a rip bit for bit with the same md5 as my JaS 10.4.6 install dvd ( meaning they just renamed it with there {censored} release group name ) without the ATI ata , b0 or updated amd (I.E no need to run the amd enabler after the install ) ppf.As always HOTISO is nothing original, stay away from there releases and get the original releases, not a repackaged fake scene release. Does it have ALL the Intel stuff, or has it been stripped or added to? 1. It's the release by hotiso. It's simply the name of the bootable DVD 2. They've taken a 10.4.6 and patched it with the maxxuss patches, rederived the bootable image and basically it all (mostly) just works. 3. They look about right for a 10.4.6 release. They've added quite a few extra drivers like for Radeon VIA etc. 4. Yeah all the patches are in the root of the DVD in original form. 5. It seems to think most of the binaries are Universal. Hence it's probably good for both. I can only test Intel though. 6. It appears to be a complete release. I haven't found anything missing yet anyway and after install, it takes about 4Gb of disc space (without printer drivers and languages). Cheers, Niall the 10.4.6 hotiso is just a rip bit for bit with the same md5 as my JaS 10.4.6 install dvd without the ATI ata , b0 or updated amd (I.E no need to run the amd enabler after the isntall ) ppf,as aloways HOTISO is nothing originale stay away from there releases and get the original releases, not repackaged fake scene releases True. However, your releases don't make it to usenet and many of us are stuck behind uni firewalls which don't allow bittorrent. Hence we make do with what we have. I would say though that it's a good release in that it works, but I agree it could do with more acknowledgements of who is actually doing the work. I am glad its geting out and you liked it enought to make a guide althought its totally patched and you dont need to add anything like maxxuss patches or any of that.just boot the dvd and install Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/15825-installation-guide-for-macos-x-1046-hotiso-dvd/#findComment-101802 Share on other sites
lamxing
I've used a new physical drive to install the HotISO version, erased and partitioned the hdd in the installer's Disk Utilities. But after install and changing the HDD boot sequence in BIOS, the OSX HDD won't boot - nothing seems to be loading at all, not even the Darwin boot loader. The computer just stays at the system information table screen. Do you guys know what could be wrong? My hardware should be some what compatible - I've got an old version OSX working before (the one released around 08/2005, not sure about the version number though). Any help is greatly appreciated! Try changing the bootable partition to the MacOS X one using fdisk in linux. Or else install chain0 in Windows as per my instructions. Thing is, they made mistakes - their release isn't as complete as yours (from what I've read) and it needed more work done on it as I detailed in my installation guide. I had therefore assumed they'd done what you did, but not as much as you had done - which implies they didn't copy it from yours directly. I'd just like to say thanks to you though for all your hard work. I have a MacOS X installation available for development for the first time in my life, and I'm already porting my software to it. If only I could get the stupid fan to stop whirring all the time (really we need an ACPI based power step kext compatible with AMD), I'd be perfectly happy. Thanks for the feedback JaS. I suspected that. Having the same MD5 tells all. I know others will see & download this one too, it's important everyone knows what they are actually getting. It's true release groups are thieves, but these guys are pigs, as they don't even acknowledge what it is. Oh, and here's as good a place as any to say thanks for the quality work both you and myzar have provided us.
