After trying to switch to OSX from Windows and Linux, I am constantly frustrated by two things:

1) Difficult mouse movement in OSX. The behavior, from my experience, is much different than in Windows or Linux. It's hard to describe exactly why, but I have a hard time moving the mouse accurately for short distances, e.g. trying to move through menu items. I don't know if it has to do with acceleration, responsiveness, etc., but it's just a lot harder in OSX than in Windows or Linux.

2) Lack of support in Finder for cut & paste for files and folders. I've read the arguments, which mainly come down to "it doesn't make sense as a feature (because "cut" should delete, but here it doesn't delete, so it's not consistent...), and you don't need it anyway because you have drag & drop, so that's why Apple doesn't have it." The problem is that the rest of the PC world (e.g. Windows, plus all of the major windows managers in Linux) does have this feature, so I don't get the reluctance.

So I'm open to any suggestions. I don't have a solution for the second issue. For the first issue, after trying the built-in OSX settings, I tried USB Overdrive, and while I'm sure that this program does a lot of things, it didn't help me. I'm now trying SteerMouse, which seems to partially solve the problem, though not completely.

When shown on a graph, Mac OS X's mouse acceleration algorithm is curved more than the one of Windows and Linux and is probably one of the most annoying features of Mac OS X. Everything feels like its being too overcompensated. It's too slow when executing precision work, and too fast when you want to move freely.

Try using SteerMouse. Kill the tracking speed and adjust your speed with only the sensitivity and you can somewhat achieve the Windows/Linux mouse movements.

Either that or do what I do and Synergy in from a Windows/Linux machine. (Yeah, I hate OS X's mouse movements that much)

$5 solution: Filecutter http://www.splook.com/Software/FileCutter.html (you can try crack it)

Free solution: Quicksilver - keyboard shortcut hack.

Other options: Use XFolders, Path Finder etc etc.

Quicksilver is actually an awesome program for any power user (hint hint)
