0m3gA
iPC X-DL & iDeneb 1.4 install hangs when extracting. I can boot up both dvds and use Disc Utility to erase and format the whole disc. I click on Customize and choose the Voodoo 9.5.0 kernel, then click Install. As soon as it begins installing on the volume the machine (screen, drives, mouse) hangs. I thought it might be a problem with the disk, but I am able to install and run Vista without problems on it. Via Chipset, AMD AM2, 2GB RAM, 8600GT, SATA HDD and ODD in IDE mode. Beerkex'd
SATA must be set to AHCI and don't expect to be able to get away with only selecting a kernel in custom install, especially on a board with VIA chipset. 0m3gA
Well the installer seems to work because Disc Utility is able to modify the drive, its just the actual install fails at some point. I just tried the XxX 10.5.6 Universal Final v2 dvd with default customizations except I enabled Voodoo 9.5.0 kernel and the "Install Succeeded" but I got "still waiting for root device". So I guess I will ignore the two aforementioned dvds in effort to get this one working. But at least its noted that XxX installer succeeds on this hardware where iPC and iDeneb fail. Exactly. That you are able to boot the DVD all the way up to the installer very likely means that it is possible to install OSX from that DVD on your system. Being able to boot the DVD does not mean that it should install without you picking anything under custom install. You just have to pick the right patches and/or drivers under custom install. It's not enough to pick a kernel only. At a minimum you must pick the right chipset drivers too. If you get 'still waiting for root device' on first boot from HDD that means you picked the wrong chipset drivers.
