My end goal is to have a computer that can install retail Leopard and run updates, etc. without a problem.

So, would that be feasible with those parts? Are there cheaper alternatives that would work as well?

Correct, all of this stuff is 100% compatible.

 

There are some cheaper motherboards that also work, but that is a great choice.

 

Now that the 4850/4870 work, you can go for one of those. The prices also just dropped to $120 and $150.
