jdratlif
I'm also having trouble with ethernet. I've tried both vanilla with no ethernet EFI strings and vanilla with the EFIStudio ethernet EFI string to no avail. Everything else (including sound and 8600 GTS graphics) work without a hitch. What could be wrong? Also, what modded kext did you use before the EFI string? I'm not sure what would be wrong. I used the RealTek R8169 driver from XxX 10.5.6 PPF3. I can try and find it if you like. My installer disc does 10.5.4, not 10.5.6 That is a distinct possibility. Before I go look for the XxX disc, try my kext from 10.5.6. rtl8169_10.5.6.tar.zip This is a zipped tarball. It was supposed to be bzip2, but forum won't let me upload bz2 archive. The AppleRTL8169Ethernet.kext should go in the /System/Library/Extentions/IONetworkingFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns directory. You may need to fix the permissions. rm -rf /System/Library/Extentions.mkext Go to Disk Utility, Select Drive, Repair Permissions. Then reboot and see what hapens. If it's no good, I'll go look for the XxX driver. iindigo3D
Ok, I'm really starting to think that either 10.5.6 is required or I'm just missing something. The Pystar R1000 kext doesn't seem to do anything either As with all other setups, ethernet simply shows "unplugged" whether it actually is or not. It's not the cable, because I'm now using one that worked perfectly prior to connecting it to the PC. SET TO MANUAL SET TO 10 full duplex also turn off ipv6. if u got 10.5.4. once u update to 10.5.6 via apple update when u restart it will change to new ionetworking.kext that works with efi string. i enabled lan boot rom in bios also disabled COM ports in bios as it was showing a modem on com1 lol my 2 cents after 1 hr of playing with it. (reinstalling due to chameleon boot hangs at ocspd) appledecrypt.kext needed from dfeboot kexts.img im using some cheapo x1300 natit compatible ati dvi/svideo out from a dell optiplex 745 :-D works ok so far. will post back with my steps with boot132 and instahackintosh 10.5.4dvd i made Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/156172-retail-leopard-1056-gigabyte-ga-g31m-esl2/page/2/#findComment-1144415 Share on other sites
LatinMcG
ok here it is. 1: custom made retail 10.5.4 with dfe boot132 r436 with stylvnub's instahackintosh 2: after it booted partitioned 2 HFS+ in the partition tab of disk util and named them (nospaces) 3: installed sucessfully and at reboot hung but let it run for 1 minute or so. i noticed hd activity. 4: booted with dfe 132 pressed a key the asks what drive..i typed 80 then loaded osx with -v and all ok. 5: changed network advanced settings, advanced, ipv6 off, ethernet tab manual 10MB full duplex rest defaults works. ok then apply then watch ip change in 30 secs. 6: dloaded osx86 tools and dloaded driver alc883 and skipped rest. installed, cleared extensions cache, installed appledecrypt.kext from dfe boot 132 kexts.img, repaired permissions rebooted to sound working. reboot. 7: change output to line out and input internal microphone. 8: installed chameleon 2 rc1 and no more dfe boot132 typing 80 !! 9:click the apple up top left, apple updates and enjoy!. if u have 10.5.4 after update audio goes. reinstall alc883 and fixed! Now for dual boot xp on separate MBR disk go here Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/156172-retail-leopard-1056-gigabyte-ga-g31m-esl2/page/2/#findComment-1144537 Share on other sites
zim2dive
Quick question.. and I've seen references to this elsewhere... as far as I can tell, this mobo does not have PWM control for the system(case) fan? Note the specs listed at the gigabyte website: 1. System voltage detection 2. CPU temperature detection 3. CPU/System fan speed detection 4. CPU overheating warning 5. CPU/System fan fail warning 6. CPU fan speed control It lists CPU fan speed control, but not system fan speed control. I've double checked the manual, and also find no mention of PWM control for the case fan. This would coincide with the negative reviews of fan noise on the Psystar systems, altho with better choice of an "always-on" fan, the noise could have been removed). Just wanted to double check.. I'm planning to replace my case fan, and wanted to verify what I'm working with. Note: I don't consider this a big negative (the 3-pin connector has pwr/gnd/sense.. and I believe sense is an output back to the mobo of fan speed? thus unless the pwr is being modulated we are always on at full tilt), but if I am simply dealing with an "always-on" fan, then I'll simply target one that is low-noise at its max (and probably a reduce airflow (and thus max noise) vs a fan that could scale up and down) again, just wanted to confirm.. I'm new to worrying about this level of detail on my "mac" Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/156172-retail-leopard-1056-gigabyte-ga-g31m-esl2/page/2/#findComment-1144577 Share on other sites

DP User
I have that board with an E5200 Chip. I used iDeneb (10.5.6) and added the realtex R1000 Ethernet Kext (for Bonjour) with no issues. Built in video, of course, is {censored}. I use a 7600GS on that board. Fans run pretty silent. jdratlif
I wasn't aware 10.5.7 was out. I will go try it and see what happens. Okay, it broke everything for me too. I have posted updated installation instructions for how to install from scratch upgrading to 10.5.7, but as for updating an already running system, I don't know. I'm starting to think vanilla isn't getting me any benefits over using XxX or some other distribution. malone46844
Just ordered this board with new cpu and ram. As my budget is very tight, I am trying to reuse as many parts I already have as possible. I would like to reuse my IDE drive for the time being. Can anyone confirm that Leo will boot off an IDE drive with this board? This was just as easy as putting osx on my dell mini9. Hi Malone, I have recently intalled 10.5.7 from scratch on the same motherboard (IPC10.5.6 on first hd > install retail 10.5.6 on second hd> used combo update 10.5.7 and then installed all the kext) The only problem i have is shutown/restart. Of course i try many version of the Psystar openhaltrestart.kext without succes. I then tryed many different distro (installed osx 13 times in 2 days lol!) but always same issue! All is going well but no restart/shutdown. Can u please tell me wich version of BIOS are you using on it ? Is there anything on it i have to setup? (bios) Thanks in advance for your help, Sorry for my bad english (i'm french) Br, white Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/156172-retail-leopard-1056-gigabyte-ga-g31m-esl2/page/2/#findComment-1185110 Share on other sites

boomerx01
Hey there, I have G31M-ES2L v2.0 with the FF bios installed. When i try to boot to the Snow Leopard CD from the Boot 132 boot default choice, the screen goes blank after it starts to load Darwin (after it says Press any key to boot from CD). Any suggestions? Looks like the USB turns off, but the monitor still on, just blank. I using DVI for connection.
