hellspawn
Hi! I'm running 10.5.6 basically since it came out. All updates are applied (including today's). A few weeks ago, I started noticing that my system freezes shortly (for maybe a tenth second) every five seconds or so. I found out that this only happens when either Front Row or ITunes (current version) are running. Since the Front Row process keeps on running when the actual application doesn't, it's enough to open it once and close it then. The symptoms are that my mouse pointer stops moving for a fraction of a second every ~5 seconds (which can be really annoying) and when playing back a video it constantly drops a few frames every time. I've not been able to figure out what exactly causes this. There are no messages in the logs and everything behaves normal aside from these freezings. My CPU load and temperature are ok and there's no abnormal disk activity. Network load also is negligible. Has anyone the same problem or maybe a solution/idea? Konami®
I also noticed the same issue, don't know why this happens, it was working fine before with full performance Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/156006-short-freezes-every-few-seconds/#findComment-1097608 Share on other sites
hellspawn
I'm suspecting that it came with the iTunes 8.0.2 update, but I haven't been able to get an installation package for an older 8.x version. Konami®
I think it could be related to the latest security update from Apple, because not just happen with itunes, it happen sometimes without open itunes. Konami®
I found in MacRumors a solution that is from real macs and is rebuilding spotlight index, I am currently trying and see what happens... edit: Works great, I don't see any short freezes anymore, you need the free application called OnyX and do script maintain and rebuild spotlight index, works like a charm in my Machine, feel like a recently installed Leopard! hellspawn
I just tried rebuilding the spotlight index, but unfortunately it didn't solve the problem for me. Also, the problem is only there when either iTunes or Front Row are running. Killing the FR process or quitting iTunes makes it disappear immediately.
