I was told from a good trusted source that Shuttle has stopped distributing the KPC K45 backbone system we have used so much.

Sites like Newegg.com and tigerdirect.com are not longer listing the K45 between their products. If you are one of the many people that could still be interested in getting your hands on a Shuttle K45 you should act now. There are few sites out there that are still offering the K45 for a reasonable price. Go get yours!

I won't list any sites myself. I don't pretend to advertise them here. Google is a good friend as always :)

If you ever happen to get a K45 you can find a step by step guide here that shows you how to install Leopard (Kalyway 10.5.2 and upgrade it straight to 10.5.5 & 10.5.6 respectively. I'm working on the guide ATM and I plan to have it ready this very week (Just waiting for my K45 order to arrive so I can install it and take some photos.

Things you will be able to accomplish following the guide:

Run Leopard 10.5.6 with all the bells and whistles. (Darwin 9.6.0)

Shutdown works, Restart works, Sleep works.

Video works and can change resolution (CI/QE Enable) with no artifacts.

Sound works (I have never tested the Mic though)

Wireless Adapter (works)

Time Machine works as well as any other application.

Hope this guide helps some mates getting it done without being worry about "what's going to happen if it is upgraded".

Keep tuned and get your Shuttle k45 while you can!

Cheers

Update: Guide is almost ready. Missing only minor fixes.

Thanks for putting together this guide. I haven't tried the "no artifacts video resolution" fix, but it looks rather intimidating without photos (I'm a Mac newb), so that section will be much appreciated when complete.

EDIT: Actually, the video resolution fix was really easy if you follow the instructions carefully.

I'll be taking screeshots and adding it as I make the time to work on it. So far the only thing we are missing is the "Sleep Fix" which I'm planning to add today.

About the GMA950 fix (creating your own DSDT) it is not hard at all. I'm not sure if I'll be adding screenshots for that as well since the instructions are pretty much straight forward. It looks intimidating but the real work is nothing but copying and pasting a couple of lines, generally done in less than 3 minutes.

Cheers,

Yoni

Edit: Sleep Fix added

having some drama installing kalyway. the message "the installer could not validate the contents of the basesystem" have been looking in this forum people have this same problem but no fix. could some one help me out. cheers

It is good if you update your post to let others know what the problem was. Memory modules was the problem in this case. Replacing RAM solved this issue.

Greetings

Yoni
