Caprica01 Posted March 2, 2009 Share Posted March 2, 2009 OK I have looked all the net, read numerous threads on numerous sites, and have not been able to come up with an answer, or be helped in my task of installing OSx Leopard on my PC. So to start, here are my stats PC Stats ======== AMD 62X2 5600+ skt 940 w/ SSE2 & 3 4GB DDR2 PC-6400 MSI m/b. Model 7501. SB780G chipset 256mb ASUS EAH3650 PCI-e GPU TP-Link wireless N PCI adapter 1 x sATA Hitachi 320GB HD - Vista Ultimate 1 x sATA Hitachi 1TB HD - Win XP Pro w/sp3 sATA DVD-RW dual boot set up with Vista as primary boot drive. ========= Ok thats the essentials out of the way. I have been trying to install OSx Leopard onto my system since Thursday now. I have downloaded pretty much every up to date distro available. iDeneb, iPC, iATIKOS, lawless, kalaway etc. All burnt at the lowest possible speed. The same thing happens on all distros when I attempt to install. I get to the darwin boot screen. I've pressed any key to boot from CD, and all I get is the apple logo screen, with a little square with a circle and line through it after about 5 mins. I've tried loading by typing -v (verbose), -x(safe mode), -s(single user), and when I do this I get an error about firewire and security modes, and it won't go any further. I believe for AMD we need the Voodoo kernel (iPC has it). I can get the install to complete, but then it fails to boot. That's where I am stuck now. I pulled the original drive in the PC and used a spare/old 60G laptop SATA drive.. used Disk Util to format that and do a clean install. Not sure if that makes any diff. From there I can do an install.. sometimes (1 success, 2 fails so far). In BIOS I set my boot order to DVD 1st. I'd say it spends 5 minutes chugging on the DVD before the installer comes up. The hard drive light was just constantly on. Not even flickering, and the cd wasn't being read at all. I really dont know how long you should wait guy. Like I said my hard drive light stays on, but the CD doesn't spin. When I do -v at the Darwin screen, I just get caught in the FIREWIRE security error loop. Caprica01 Posted March 3, 2009 Author Share Posted March 3, 2009 OK, I've finally managed to install OSx on my system. I had to change how the system saw the attached sATA devices. I had to change them from ide to ACHI I think the option was. Did that, and boom! Booting straight from DVD, not problems. Formatted the partition I had set up, chose the the correct settings for my system. I think!, and installed. My only problem now is that after install, it requires a re-boot, and when it reboots, it wont load up. It looks like I might be having some problems with the graphics adapter. The screen just displays alot of blocky purple like things on the screen. Dont whether it's just going to be a matter of playing with the options in the customize menu to see which one works. You could try not installing a graphics driver at the "customize" stage of the installer... Will run in VESA mode, this is better than nothing.. Use Universal OSx86 Installer to set resolution.. Caprica01 Posted March 4, 2009 Author Share Posted March 4, 2009 OK guys, good news. I finally got it installed and working. Had to use a different distro. Had to go with the kalyway 10.5.2 release. Had to set my onchip ATA devices to AHCI in my bios. I loaded the speedstepkernel from Darwin boot. These are the options I selected for my customize Customize ============ no graphics selected. My card was not on the list Realtek Sigmatel Audio (this doesn't work) Atheros wireless adapter no mobo chipset. My chipset was not on the list. apps: gmail notifier, kext helper, mojo, perian, simply burns, VLC Patch: time machine fix AMD Patch: AMD_1052_Patch_test_1 Installed, re-booted, changed boot order in bios to remove CD drive as 1st boot device. Now up and running. I now need to install the kext's for my chipset, audio and graphics. So far so good. Will report back after the kext installs. Mine seems very flaky (tried both ForceDethV and nForceLAN drivers from iPC 10.5.6). My ethernet is there after I install and reboot.. and works for a short time (no more than 10 minutes) and then when I try again later safari says I'm not connected to the internet and Network Prefs say cable not connected. (I will have to double check this is not an after-sleep event) I also had my screen go white/lock up and had to reset my mobo before I could boot again. I just installed the Atheros wireless adapter as my PC is set up with a wireless PCI card for internet connection. UPDATE ====== As mentioned above I was going to install some new/updated kexts now the install is working. I logged onto PCWiz website through the Leopard OS and loaded the following driver packages:- Drivers for VIA, SiS, Marvell, and ATI SBXXX chipsets Audio driver package for ALC888 audio codec (OS X Leopard) Patched Mac OS X 10.5.4 drivers for ATI Radeon HD 3650 Quick note about the graphics package: This is what I have experienced the most trouble with. If I try installing any package apart from the one I mentioned above, I get no picture on re-boot, just a screen full of purple blocks. But so far so good. I have also updated the quicktime and iTunes directly through the update software, but not updated to 10.5.6. Yet! That's my next project for today.
