msingh
Hello Disregard my sig below. I am working to setup osx on a Dell Optiplex 745 which has the following hardware : 1. 160 GB SATA hard disk (no option in BIOS to set it to AHCI/IDE). 2. Broadcom NetXtreme 5754 Gigabit ethernet card (found a driver on one of the forums, edited it to make it load, but freezes the system after setting the MAC address to all zeros). 3. Dlink WDA-1320 wireless card with an Atheros AR2413 chipset. 4. ATI X1300 Radeon video card. Here is what has happened so far : 1. I initially installed retail Leopard 10.5 using boot-132. Installs and boots fine. No support for any of the network cards (I can live with either - prefer the wireless card though). 2. Then I tried iDeneb 1.3 10.5.5. This distro initially worked on my Travelmate (see sig). Used netkas kernel 9.2.0. Even sleep worked. However, the fonts are choppy (hard to read characters on the terminal even). No joy with the network cards. 3. Then I tried Kalyway 10.5.2. Same story as 1. 4. Then I installed retail again as in 1. Popped in the iDeneb 1.4 (10.5.6) DVD and copied the Atheros patch on to the desktop. It installed and my airport card showed up finally. However, I could not power it on. Upon reboot, I ran into a boot0: Error. No go. 5. Then I turned to iDeneb 1.4 10.5.6. Chose the barest of options (chose the iDeneb essentials, ICHx chipset fix, kernel 9.2.0, atheros wireless, firewire remove, EHCI Sleep enabler, poweroff fix). Used netkas kernel 9.2.0 (which I know works from 2). The install went through fine, though ATI X1300 is no longer is listed as supported. Chose X1350 mobility. Don't know if it works. However, now comes the most irrational clanger of all - I get the infamous "Still waiting for root device" error. To recap, I do NOT get this error with anything but iDeneb 1.4. I have two SATA devices (the hard drive and the internal DVD/CD burner). Switched them - no joy. Tried booting with -f -v -x option. No change. What is wrong with iDeneb 1.4 ??
