Hey so I can't do pin config because I only have XP but could get a linux dump pretty easily - what command to use for that in linux?

Pretty sure its a 662, thats what I've read and I think I saw that on XP. I remember a linux system profiler reading out an ALC883 though, probably just some driver mismatching.

Well where do I do the linux dump? In messing around with stuff from this forum I got the system profiler to recognize the device as a 662 but that is as far as I got it.

This is what I get in system profiler.

No devicesd in sounds, no volume icon

You need to download some linux live cd, I have read that recomended is mandriva instead of ubuntu, as ubuntu codec dump isnt so accurate. Google for mandriva-linux-one-2009-KDE4-int-cdrom-i586.iso for example.

you dont need some terminal code at all to get this dump, you just have to navigate into appropriate folder and copy from here the dump file. Depending at system the locatio of audio codec dump might vary.

You will find it /proc/asound/card0/codec#1 or in another folder in /proc/asound/, your filename should be codec# with some number.
