and does the GMA950 work completely with your install without patching? QE/CI working? all resolutions available?

Using Kalyway 10.5.2:

Sound doesn't work initially. Resolutions up to 1024x768 area available initially.

I'm working on both these items.

This post contains my build to order and it includes firewire. Hardware is about $350 and is more than just basic machine. My weakest link? Probably the video card but I don't need a more powerful one for lots of games.

You can build a cheap machine if your not in a rush and don't mind used stuff on ebay or Craigslist.

Once you get it up and running, look for more or newer hardware when the budget gets healthy. It took me 3 months to source the stuff and listen to others. I followed PCWiz suggestions for hardware.

My rig:

Mobo- (Refurb) GA-P35C-DS3R $60.00

PSU- (new) Coolmaster 500 watt, x 5 SATA $30.00

FireWire Card (New) $19 (included 3 USB 2.0)

RAM - (Used) $28.00 2GB

DVD Drive- OEM Samsung $25.00

Hard drive (Used) 60 GB SATA- $60

Antec Alum Case (Used) .99 cents plus 28 shipping (the best deal, it was modded for water cooling and no one bid, sweet!!)

cuz I got a good deal on the case, I bought a Quad core for $249.00 and a heat pipe.

Video Card- (Used) GT 7600 256mb VRAM- $30.00

total = $529.99

As you know, if you swap the Quad core chip out for something less powerful, the rig can be cheap.
