Darnei Tiger
Hi all. for quite a while i was running kalyway 10.5.2 with no problems. i finally was able to install something else (iPC 10.5.6. install from within kalyway to another partition. only thing that didnt give me "still waiting for root device" ). everything is working flawlessly, except for one problem. it recognizes no optical drives (though flash drives and hard drives are fine). I believe, from my research, that this is an issue with IOATAFAMILY.kext. i tried using the one from my kalyway install, but ended up corrupting it somehow. i was wondering if anybody knew how to help me with this issue? My specs: ECS KA3-MVP mobo w/ Jmicron chipset (ugh) AMD Athlon X2 4200+ geforce 8600GT OC IDE LG super multi drive IDE 160gb HDD SATA 500gb hdd. thorazine74
You need a JMicronATA.kext try the ones posted here in this subforum, thats normally independent of IOATAFamily. But you say that you cant see optical drives only, if you can see the IDE HD but not the DVD and they are plugged on the same port that means the problem could be a different one (if the controller works it should see all the drives connected, if you need a extra kext to drive the controller, you wouldnt be seeing any drives connected to it) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/153996-ipc-1056-recognizes-no-optical-drives/#findComment-1086588 Share on other sites

Was using Kalyway 10.5.2 upgraded to 10.5.6. Worked flawless but somehow screwed it up so tried iPC 10.5.6. Everything works audio and all but am not able to get OSX to see my opticals. I'm pretty sure I selected the jmicron driver but probably not the right one for my motherboard. My HD's are sata and my opticals are IDE but the ports are set to ACHI mode. Was working this way with Kalyway. xor_2
I have quite similar issue with iPC 10.5.6 and optical sata drive (pioneer 216 or something like that) I use 10.5.7 vanilla kernel (updated by apple system update) on Asus P5N-D with nforceata kext and my hard drivers are working great (>100mb/s transfers from one disk to another ) and system works great, but I can't use my DVDs I will today try sata->ide connector and try if it works. But I would rather install/uninstall some kext and use my sata drive natively...
