mccurdy21
Hi all, First off, I want to thank everyone here for the endless amount of data and a search function that actually works. (I think this is my first post btw).... So I began my battle with trying to install OSX on my PC about a year ago, sometimes it would work and sometimes it wouldn't. I think I have finally gotten a stable install using Iatkos v5 10.5.5, with only the sound issue remaining. Now that I have done all of this, I want to upgrade my Hard Drive. I currently run the following: Vista Home and OSX 10.5.5 GA P35 DS3L 8800 GTS 2 gigs Ram 1- 500g Hd with 2 partitions (440gigs for Vista and 50 gigs for OSX) 1- 120g Hd with 2 partitions (60 gigs for Vista data back up and 50 gigs for OSX data backup) Now, I want to get another 500 giger or 2 to make this system a little more organised. What would be the best utility to copy my 50gig osx partition to the new HD? I have time machine backing up right now, can I install a fresh OSX to a new HD and then use time machine to "restore" to what I have now? Thanks for any advice, I will keep searching also... I know how to use it please don't flame. I have gone this long without posting so I figured I better pop my e-cherry sometime. I always use diskutil to do it once you have partitioned/formatted your new drive using it then you select the restore option with your old install as the source your new drives OS partition if you made more than one on it as the destination let it copy everything over then install your boot loader of choice (I use Chameleon it installs without having to unmount the drive) and it should just boot when the drive is selected after using the F12 key to get your boot devices menu when starting the computer. Edit: Thought I would add your probably better off using GUID partitioned for the new drive if only OS X is going to be put on it, you get this by using the Option button when at the partitioning screen just beside the graphic view it gives you and put the OS partition if more than on the first partition at the start of the drive.
