alvin777
Hi. I used an Boot-132 .iso that's been tailored made for the GA-965-DS3 (all revisions). Everything I used was SATA including the DVD drive. This Boot CD did boot the retail DVD version 10.5.4 so I can test if it'll be flawless with software update to 10.5.6. After the installation the retail DVD said installation failed and I must choose my startup. To be safe, because I had 3 hardisks, I removed the rest except the hardisk where OS X retail was installed. It does boot to OS X but it still needs to go through the boot cd to be able to do that. How do I boot OS X without using the boot CD? How do you install the necessary kexts/drivers in the boot CD? I believe the boot CD is a Chameleon Boot-167. Also it seems to need a driver/kext for the 7900 GS Nvidia (Quartz Extreme is turned off. The Welcome animation when it first booted was also sluggish. What's the best kext/driver for Nvidia and this board. If there's a sound kext/driver for 5.1 SoundBlaster brand, please inform me of that as well and instructions to installing it. Thanks in advance. Gbu. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/153783-ga-965p-ds3-with-boot-132-using-munkys-method/ Share on other sites
josephien
well you have two options, the first is to use the efi partition which is hidden check this site about munky's guide ( i'm using that solution just fine) the other solution is to install pc-efi 9 or chameleon and then install all the kext which are loaded from the boot-cd with kext helper... greetz Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/153783-ga-965p-ds3-with-boot-132-using-munkys-method/#findComment-1085643 Share on other sites
alvin777
Hi. Thanks. I can now boot without the boot CD (I used generic.iso this time and installed the kext from the .img where the Extension was). I'm not testing and downloading the most important part- if it is flawless with software update (from 10.5.4 to 10.5.6). I used Munky's method for future proofing (probably not Snow Leopard). 1) The card doesn't seem to support QE though. What's the latest and best kext/installer for Nvidia (mine is a 7900 GS 256) so far? 2) How do I set this OS X from booting straight without having to stop at Darwin boot menu (and selecting the hardisk where OS X is installed, then pressing Enter). I only have one OS X installed. I dual boot using the board's bios boot menu F12 anyway. No need for a boot menu at this time. 3) When I boot to Windows 7 (separated hardisk using the bios boot menu F12), the clock is wrong and I have to update it everytime and vice versa when I go back to OS X. Any idea on a fix? 4) The Dock icons are magnified too big by default? Any way to get it back to normal without using the control panel slider? 5) Any kext to make the 5.1 surround work? It's on stereo only. It'd be complete if those with 5.1 speakers could be used for 5.1 audios, movies and games. 5.1) no sound by the way even with all the kexts from the Boot CD installed 6) doesn't restart well Experiment: When I removed all the kext from the EFI/Extensions I would get the "you need to restart" error upon booting. What kext is the absolute minimum to boot it properly. Is it the Jmicron or is this error related to another kext? Thanks again to everyone involved. It's a great way to install OS X for the mean time until such time a real Mac Pro could be had:) Gbu Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/153783-ga-965p-ds3-with-boot-132-using-munkys-method/#findComment-1086061 Share on other sites
