nathan7
Everything works great on my machine: SATA, IDE, reboot, sleep, shutdown, sound, time machine, network, etc. But I just helped a friend set up his GA-965P-S3 with a new 500GB/32MB cache Seagate SATA drive and his Xbench disk results are a good bit higher than mine. I am running a rebranded Seagate 320GB with 16MB cache - Maxtor STM3320620AS. Both drives are 7200RPM and SATA-300. My Xbench disc score is about 56, and his is about 71. Is this just a difference in drive speed or is my board or my drivers not working correctly? Does 32MB cache make that big of a difference? He beats me the most on the Sequential section of the test, 170 vs. my 100. I find myself wanting a very fast drive now to find out. Thanks. nathan7
no - the firmware Could you please elaborate? The firmware for my motherboard? It is the latest. The drive firmware? Is that upgradeable? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/153417-slow-sata-or-slow-drive/#findComment-1083892 Share on other sites
peach-os
I mean the firmware of the harddisk. It´s a known issue that some seagate disks have firmware problems - especially the 7200.11 series. and yes, you can update the firmware of your harddisk, but you should be really careful. Cool, thanks. I had no idea they could be updated, but I guess why not. OK Seagate's site says my drive is not affected. peach-os
they might say it´s not affected by the newest super crash. but if there is a newer for your drive it would be worth to try it. otherwise buy a new one Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/153417-slow-sata-or-slow-drive/#findComment-1084421 Share on other sites
