Took a while. I currently have everything work except the tablet, which I'll start working on after I enjoy my OSx86 for a bit.

1. Before you start, copy these kexts for your video, and this kext for your pc-card to a USB drive.

2. Do the paperclip trick if you aren't connected to an external monitor (and if you ever want to boot without an external monitor). Good photo of it in this thread.

3. Boot the iAtkos 5i DVD.

4. Format your drive with disk utilities.

5. Select your disk.

6. Click customize before installing, select the following kexts: PS/2, Intel AHCI SATA or Intel non-AHCI SATA (this depends on your bios setting), laptop battery.

7. Click install.

8. After the installation completes, reboot.

9. At darwin bootload her F8 and enter -v -s

10. Load into single user, follow the prompt directions to mount your drive as read/write.

11. Follow these directions to enable your network card (if you don't, you will have an inifinite welcome screen).

12. Mount your USB drive as follows

mkdir /Volumes/USB
  mount_msdos /dev/disk1s0 /Volumes/USB

13. Copy the aforementioned Video and PC Card kexts to your /System/Library/Extensions directory (remember, us cp -R to copy a directory).

14. Repair permissions

diskutil repairPermissions /

15. Reboot.

16. Now you should be able to boot, register a new user, and get to the desktop with full graphics acceleration and wired networking. You'll notice you have no sound, which is the enxt thing to fix.

17. Boot your laptop with a Linux Live CD, plug in a usb drive.

18. Do a codec dump with the following command

cat /proc/asound/card0/codec#0 > ~/Desktop/codec_dump.txt

Note: I used ubuntu 8.10 to do this, your codec#0 may changed depending on distro e.g. codec#1

19. Transfer file to USB drive and Reboot into OSX.

20. Download the AppleHDA Patcher from here. Drag your codec_dump.txt onto the AppleHDA Patcher application, wait while it does it's magic.

21. Reboot, and you should have sound!

Thanks goes to every forum I've linked to. This is not my work, just putting together puzzle pieces that other have made. Hopefully that helps someone run a decent x86 OS.

I'll update if I get the tablet working.

NOTE: Internal wireless does not work, use an external card.

EDIT: Tablet funcionality is working! Downloaded v2.0b16 of TabletMagic

1. Install TabletMagic 2.0b16

2. Go to System Pref >> Tablet Magic

3. Click on 'TabletPC' tab.

4. Click 'Enable Digitizer'

5. Reboot.

6. You may get an error message saying that the kext didn't load. Repair permissions to the drive and reboot.

7. Go to System Pref >> Tablet Magic, and check the box "enabled"

8. Your pen should work, but be in all the wrong places. Go to the "Tablet PC" panel of your TabletMagic pref.

9. Change the numbers to 24394x18408

Yay! Fully functional Tablet PC with OSx86 10.5.5! Hurrah!

Great write up!

I, too, have a T4215 and want to try this out.

Are there other ways to get the display to work internally without having to resort to the paperclip method? It seems quite...silly and frankly I don't like the idea of having to externally short two pins in order to get it to work, especially not on a laptop that gets man-handled as much as a tablet does.

Hi ChiefChief, thanks for putting up this tutorial, I've been looking for a way to get my t4215 working for ages now.

Anyway, I'm having some trouble getting this to work, so I have a few clarifying questions:

edit: I finally got it to boot to desktop, by doing a few little modifications here and there to your instructions. But now I have new questions:

1. It's taking about 10 minutes to boot the system. Did you experience this? Any reason you know of why it might be happening?

2. Did you ever get the internal wireless to work? I have the Atheros adapter but I know the t4215 came with an option for Intel or Atheros, so it might make a difference.

I'd honestly like to know what our network vendor and device is... I think if other sers reply it'ld be a lot easier than hunting it down ourselves.

*is fixing to try this himself either right now or within this day after I get a lil sleep and fully wake up.
