I tried to get my current home system to install iDeneb 1.3 / Kalyway 10.5.2 for a week or so, I tried everything I could find, but since it's an AMD based system: PCChips A13G+ v3.0, AMD Athlon 64 3500+ 2.20GHz. I decided to try my luck at what appeared to be a popular computer setup and I bought:

The Setup:

ECS 945GCT-M/1333 Motherboard - v3.0, Intel 945GC, Socket 775

945GC Northbridge

ICH7 Southbridge

IDT 92HD202 audio codec

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/se...DE=WEBLET03SHIP

Intel Pentium Dual Core E2200 2.2Ghz 1MB 800Mhz (CP2-PD-E2200 )

Corsair 2048MB PC6400 DDR2 800MHz (2x1024MB) DHX (C13-6076 )

LG 22X DVDRW IDE OEM (L49-1004 OEM )

I am using a standard IDE 40GB Westernd Digital hard drive.

Bios:

Restore Defaults then set the following:

Disabled LAN

Disabled Audio

Enabled No Execute Bit

Disabled Max CPUID Value Limit

PC OSx86 10.5.6

Install cd starts to boot, flashes a few things on the screen that I can't read and then reboots (with -v)

Kalyway

I get a kernal panic when trying to boot up the install DVD. I tried to research it, but gave up, and I wanted to use iDeneb anyways, so that is what I am trying to get working now.

iDeneb 1.3

After tweaking the bios as noted above, the installation will load up, I run Disk Utility and remove the partition on the hard drive, I create one partition, set it to MBR, (I have tried GUID as well), I set it to Mac OS Extended (Journaled)

The first time I installed it I didn't select anything under customize, and it would boot up and have a kernal panic at appleintelcpupowermanagment, so I tried to research the problem and I think that I might need the

Under customize, I select

AppleSMBios 1333

ICH Fixed

Intel GMA950

cpu=1 fixed

Power Managment fixed (I can't remember exactly what this says)

It installs with the above options, says it completed and reboots, when it comes back up, I select -v it flashes a few lines on the screen, and then reboots. If I try -x it flashes a few pages worth of text and then reboots.

Does anyone have any suggestions on wich options I should select under customize when installing the system? Or any other suggestions?

This is a very difficult board with which to obtain a fully functional Leo install.

The codec is not the only issue, although that is certainly one of the most significant issues.

The MSI Saturn, which is also a 945GC/ICH7 board, and which has an ALC888 in most examples, is easy as pie, by comparison.

For the MSI Saturn (which has recently been selling for $59.99 complete including case, PSU and mobo) the so-called "Atom Kit" is the best approach, and this addresses the sound issue by using the Azalia audio kext.

I presently have two MSI Saturns, and the second has an E4500 (removed from a disused Psystar "Open Computer" Rev. 1), and this E4500 overclocks to 2.83 GHz in the MSI Saturn mobo.

Getting back to ECS ...

The ECS 945GC/ICH7 product has had several revisions, and the latest, Rev. 3, is perhaps the least usable.

I would not buy another ECS mobo.

hind site is 20/20 I hope I Can get this mb going withought buying a new one, but if I can't maybe I will look for suggestions on a new one to try.

I'm not worried about the audio, I don't need it working at all, if that helps with anyone having any suggestions.

I'm not worried about

Update:

Trying ICH Fix, intel 950 and Firewire removal, and I get:

using 10485 buffer headers and 4096 cluster IO buffer headers

and then it freezes

I tried a few more bios settings, no joy

ACPI Suspend Type [s3 (STR)]

Limit CPUID Max Val [Disabled]

Speedstep [Disabled]

C1E [Disabled]

Execute Disable Bit [Enabled]

Update: I got Kalyway 10.5.2 to boot up and install, I selected Intel 950, firewire fix, and deselected audio and lan drivers, after the install it freezes at:

Using 10485 buffer headers and 4096 cluster IO buffer headers

I've been trying the different kernels for no effect.

I don't have my internal audio, but that's not a major issue as i have a Griffin iMic for audio in and a Griffin Firewave for audio out. I'm running a Vanilla 10.5.7, and no issues. Even my parallel ATA is working just fine, and the realtek 8101 network card worked OOB with the vanilla install (but not iDeneb, Kalyway, or JaS for that matter).
