How do I upgrade from 10.4.1 I have tried every way that I know possible for the last 7 hours and it seems no matter what I am left at a dead end.

I tried booting from the CD which I am able to boot just fine using the CD. It sees the previous OS and ask to update it. and so it spends about 1/2 hour updating the OS. Then when the computer restarts I get the error missing operating system. I did some checking and found out that it changed the active partition to the partition that 3rd primary one ( the one that I have OS X on.)

I also see all these patches on the dvd but I can't run them .I get an error in terminal that says bad executable.

I tried to install using VM ware but that is not working as it doesn't boot up there either.

is there a manual way to upgrade from 10.4.1 to 10.4.4/5?

I am trying to install this on a Acer Travel mate 8100. I need to get the update so that I can try and get my ethernet card to work at least and some audio.

Another question I have is what is Core images, and Quartz Extreme, and how do you know you have it.?

Thanks for all the help.

I have some screen shots here if any one is interested in looking at them : http://jami1.com/osx

The problem is when I do the complete install, it doesn't boot. I get a chain booting error if I try to boot from my windows partition using chain, or if I change the active partition to partition 3 on my hard drive I get an error that says HFS+ Partition Error or Missing Operating system and nothing happens after that.

The install goes smoothly but that is all that goes, once its done I can't boot at all. I only have 3 partitions on my hard drive they are all primary windows is the second partition, and OS X is the third.

I am not sure exactly what to do now I am stuck.
