pikaia
Helly everyone. It was a long weekend, but I finally got OSX86 installed on this old Inspiron 1100... (thanks to Jas' 10.4.8 installer). After digging up some needed kexts and probably even more important, getting the kext helper, I got networking and wireless up. Everything runs great. Very impressed. However, the LCD won't sleep and it won't suspend. If I select sleep from the Apple menu, it spins down the drive and stops all running processes, however the monitor stays stuck on whatever I had on there previously. It doesn't go off when I close the lid either. I've seen tons of posts about screens not waking up after sleeping, but mine won't go to sleep. Is this common, is there a kext or setting I'm missing? I've searched through the threads, and I'm sorry if I missed it. I appreciate any help. Thanks again.
pikaia
Anyone have any insight? I was thinking about upgrading to a newer kernel, but getting this far took so long I'm a bit wary of that route. I just don't want to burn out my LCD on this laptop because it never sleeps. Thanks again for any help.
steadybootleggin
here is what you do.... i uploaded a black square jpeg. download it and put it in a folder in your picture folder, then go to system preferences and aply it as your screen saver.... some how, some way it allows the monitor to sleep (not the computer though ) ... i put tiger on a lot of computers that were for people who did not want to buy new computers but were sick of viruses and they had like 845 graphics and this was my work around...... trust me it works
