Hi.

Just started on OSx86 on my PC desktop, and I'm thinking of changing my motherboard & processor to get an Intel one, and being able to install OS X with the real Leopard DVD, getting the real software updates without worrying about "will it mess up my system?".

Any advice on a good but the cheapest possible motherboard, and which processor should I choose?

Gigabyte G31M-S2L or similar - $50

Intel E5200 CPU 2.5ghz dual core 45nm - $72

Get yourself some nice RAM - it's cheap, and a hardrive or 2, A DVD-ROM, a Case, PSU etc.

For graphics card choose between nVidia 8400, 8600, 8800, 9800 etc, or ATI 2600 XT or 3870

Well, thought it would be more expensive!

Anyway, I already changed my DVD burner and added a 500 GB hard drive last week. My 9400 GT works perfectly on OS X with a little hack.

Will see for a nice case.

Do you think I'll be able to use the retail DVD to install with this config<, or at least installing the updates without worrying?

Ok, found both in a shop near my dad's (he lives in the computer science district of Paris). Will try to buy it maybe this week end.

Just a question: Will I be able to keep my settings by "archive & install" while reinstalling with the retail DVD ?

Went to buy it this afternoon. They had the CPU, but not the motherboard, and of course they realized it just after I paid! So I took an Asus P5KPL-AM instead. Tried the Boot 132 method: 10.5.4 retail DVD (well... downloaded!) doesn't boot at all, and the 10.5.0 DVD that came with my (real) MacBook boots but stays on the little coloured wheel just before choosing a language for installation. I tried reinstalling iPC 10.5.6 with Vanilla kernel, it installs fine, but no audio nor wifi anymore, even after installing my wifi drivers (audio worked "out of the box" with my original motherboard+CPU).

Any help?

Not sure if one his drivers would work for you I tried it on an Asus P5L and got sound back, would not hurt to try do a search for "skippyretards insanelymac". Try some of those drivers to get your sound working. For wifi not sure I think some have gotten it to work just keep searching the forum, I think there is a dedicated thread for Asus P5 borads. Try google with Asus, insanelymac, wireless, as your keywords search. Maybe try P5KPL insanelymac wireless.
