Hi, I have an old powermac G4 Dual 450mhz, (gigabite ethernet)

i fooled leopard installation with open firmware, now it installed successfully it said it would finish installing after reboot. but its not rebooting, the gray screen with the apple logo and the spining thingy goes on forever until the apple logo changes to the ghost buster sign with no ghost in it. ( that round circle with a oblique bar going through it)

so what did i do wrong or what's my problem? please help i need this thing to work...

i just realized i was in the wrong forum... so this should be the right one.

In other words... (beg your pardon JAS, trying to translate your words in simple text)

Leopard isn't providing support for older machines as Tiger did.

Some components were stripped off the new version:

for example the older IDE controller kexts needed for the HD to load the system (the ghostbuster sign you have at startup)

or the video drivers for the AGP card (as I remember the G4 dual came with a ATI Rage 128 pro(?) w/ 32 MB)

Other issues may rise (like Ethernet, firewire chips), transforming your leopard install in a patient bricolage work to get

all working.

But... nothing is impossible (and most of the users of this forum know that).

So... google is your friend and a lot of solutions in the other sections of the forum.

(Another proof that the osx86 way of life can help real mac users, complementing apple)

My advice: install working Tiger kexts over the leopard ones with kexthelper and cross fingers.

EDIT: found this link h__p://lowendmac.com/osx/leopard/unsupported.html

may help you out.

BTW: I have the same machine working 100% (or even more) in Tiger 10.4.11.
