krystal
Hey there, I myself have just purchased an Acer Aspire 6930 laptop ... not sure if I should try installing Jaguar on it. The most current version I've got is Leo4All 10.5.2 but haven't tried it ... did boot up the DVD though and everything went well but chickened out when I got to the setup screen <LOL>. Anyways, didn't get OS disks or a recovery ... had to build my own from an acer backup utility that came with the laptop. Just don't wanna screw things up too badly <LOL> Has anyone successfully installed os x on an Acer 6930 laptop? ForestGuardian
You'll likely be much better off with a Boot-132 installation method and a copy of retail Leopard. In the meantime, try iPC and the most basic configuration possible. This includes: • PS2 patch - so your keyboard and trackpad still work • zero video drivers - You have one major snag. The GM4500 currently has no OSx86 support. • Power Off fix • PowerManagement bundle Have you successfully finished any installation? Is the system freezing or hanging during the startup? I got my Acer 6930 just last night, but the model I chose has the nVidia 9300M. I do know it boots from a retail Leopard DVD (with help from Boot-132) quite nicely, but I didn't have time to finish the installation. How is your system failing? Shortly after you turn on the machine, press F8 to see the selections available to the Darwin bootloader. You should see the Leopard partition listed, and, if any, the Vista partition. At the boot prompt, type -v for verbose mode. Take a picture of the last screen before it freezes or hangs and post it. We need that boot log to help determine the problem. G! DennisDee
I have Geforce 9600M GS 512 MB - up to 1791 MB. Anyway, here is my SS with my specifications from Vista. Krystal, i put clean Vista on notebook, cuz on recovery cd, u get all these acer programs, wich are not so nice, when u try once clean windows . But i will stay on windows just because of 1 private program, wich works only over windows and dont have support for other systems. Otherwise i need MAC os for music and graphic production Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/149810-acer-6930-installation/#findComment-1060462 Share on other sites
DennisDee
Ok, i made it somehow, but still dont boot in mac . So this time i tried with iPC. Also im gonna try it now with only basic configuration. But what kernel, chipset, AppleSMBIOS should i add? For AppleSMBIOS i think i should add Rev3 667 MHz, because i have 4 GB 667MHz ram. For a bit faster help, here is screen of installation custumize with iPC: http://######.com/ipcosx86/wp-conte...ipcbetalist.png And also my last installation with iPC down... Step 1 (on boot i press any key): Step 2 (with -v): Step 2 (visual): Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/149810-acer-6930-installation/#findComment-1061104 Share on other sites
DennisDee
Ok, maybe small HowTo for all Acer 6930 users . I made sucessfull install with iPC version. Boot for install and on custumize add only PS/2 - Keyboard (trackpad mouse will be detected normally) and without any other bootloader, without kernel. Bootloader and kernel will be installed by default (read license agreement). So basicly you need to install totally basic mac os. Now, when i find all drivers (High definition sound driver, GF 9600M GS driver, ethernet + wireless a.s.o. drivers) i will add that too . I hope this will help to many of you guys. IMPORTANT!!! If you install iPC distro, you will need to add -f flag @ first time boot (again, read license agreement, why to do that ) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/149810-acer-6930-installation/#findComment-1061304 Share on other sites
Sim2K
I got an Acer Aspire 6930 (Blueray option) and im looking to install this tonight if i can. It took me ages to set up the hard drive how i wanted it as it has some strange partitions on there but that is now sorted. Been told to leave one partition as a FAT32 as apple and Vista can both access that partition. Im looking to install the Leopard OS X iATKOS v5i version so we will see. Ive backed up my HD by imaging it with Nortons Ghost 14. Had to do this because if you mess around with the partitions, you loose Acers ability to rocover your machine with the CDs it creates for you as it gets most of teh stuff off your hidden partitions. With Nortons GHOST 14, you back up any partition as a image and put the image onto any partition you want and make that partition bootable. So if i mess up, im cool. There a few tutorials on YouTube and online im looking to follow so we will see. If it works for me, i'll post the tutorial that i followed on here. But dont trust Acer to back up your HD, use GHost or some other software because if you mess around with the partitons and mess up, you will loose your Vista install even if you used Acer to make a recovery CD. Sim2K
Tried the Kalyway, didnt work. Tried the iATKOS, didnt work. Tried the iPC, couldnt even boot up into install mode, stuck onthe apple screen, not sure if it was a dodgy download or DVD burn but im downloading a different torrent for the iPC and trying again with that one, if not, not sure what to do. If someone who did it, told us the exact settings they used or didnt use with which leopard install they chose, it would be very helpfull. chaka123
installed ipc 10.5.6 ppf3 retail, only with ps2 patch, ich9 sata driver and smbiosresolver.kext. it works good for me, but didn´t got my 9600m gs 512mb full working, means no qe/ci. hope that helps. if you use ipc don´t to forget to boot with -f flag on first boot after installation.
