Hi,

I have just finished building my box ready for OS X. I have installed iPC 10.5.6 on the following hardware:

Intel Core 2 Duo E4600 2.4GHZ

ASUS P5W DH DELUXE MOBO

2GB DDR2 800

NVIDIA 8800GT 256MB

250GB WD HDD

IDE DVRW

Anyway after the install I go to 'About this Mac' and the CPU is being shown as 3.8GHZ Core 2 Duo, why is this? And can it be altered?

Also I am having issues with my 8800GT. On install if I select drivers, the installation completes and boots. However it goes no further than the apple screen, when the wheel finished spinning it goes black instead of playing the welcome video. So I have reinstalled with out drivers, how can I get them installed?

Thanks in advance.

I recommend buying the retail version of Leopard for your setup. It's all perfectly - or almost - compatible. You'll have a faster, more stable system, and you'll have fewer problems when 10.5.7 comes out (not much later than the new MacBook Pro's start shipping en-masse).

Don't use pre-packed drivers for the 8800GT. There is nVinject, which is okay, but it's substandard compared to using EFIv9 GFX strings (applied through OSx86 Tools or OSx86 Universal Installer).

Many CPUs are not read correctly in OSx86. You will have to select the right AppleSMBIOS to match your hardware. Alternatively, you can use a patcher called "AboutThisMac" to fix it. However, you may still have an incorrect reading when using System Profiler.

GL!

Thanks for that dude! Ill try the EFI strings shortly, waiting for re-install.

For the retail install DVD, can I boot right from it? I already have the retail DVD so if this is a better option im on it!

@ForestGuardian

Thats for the info, I used the EFIv9 GFX srtings and the card is flying now in OSX.

I am going to install the retail DVD tonight using the BOOT-132 CD. Can I just use the generic CD or do I need a special setup for my P5WDH Deluxe motherboard? I was thinking with regards to my audio, the ALC882 has to be patched.

You can install audio drivers after you get a working system

Thats good then.

I am having an issue at the moment, not sure if its the sound or itunes. But when I have music playing the mouse is very jumpy. Is there any solutions for this, I can seem to find anything.

Right so I have just installed OS X retail 10.5.4.

I followed the instructions and got the bootloader installed so now I can clean boot with out the BOOT-132 CD.

I go into OSx86tools and add the EFIv9GFX string for my 8800GT 256MB card, however after reboot there is no change. What am I doing wrong?? Its tell me QE is not supported. When I did this with the iPC 10.5.6 release it worked fine!?

I don't think there's any 8800 support in the 10.5.4 release of Leopard. iPC installs 10.5.6, so it likely has newer nVidia kexts. Apple was very late in releasing drivers for higher-end nVidia cards.

You'll have to update to 10.5.6 via the "10.5.6 DVD Retail" methods. Boot onto a utility partition with any Leopard configuration installed. Download the ComboUpdate, and apply it to the main partition. Remember to install updated kext packs as well (available in the guides). If anything goes wrong (and for future major updates as well), you can fall back on the utility boot, and fix whatever you need to without a whole new installation.
