I am a newbie to hackintosh, though I have experience with both Macs and Windows.

Here's my problem: I am using iDeneb v1.3 Leopard 10.5.5. I am able to boot from the DVD and install it successfully on my hard drive. However, once it tries to boot from the hard drive, it fails. I have tried to do this is safe mode and it also fails. When I do a regular boot and hit -v, the final message I get before it restarts is: "Loading HFS+ file: [/system/Library/Extensions.mkext] from 4230270

Initially I had trouble getting that far, but found if I disabled my ethernet (Realtek RTL8139/810x) I could at least install it. I figured I would fix the ethernet once I got booted, but alas I can't get that far.

I have also tried installing on a USB drive, but that doesn't work at all. That said, it did allow me to plug it into my regular Mac and see that all the files did get loaded on the HD successfully. I even noticed that the driver for the Realteck RTL8139 seems to have been installed in the library.

any help would be appreciated. Here at the specs of my machine

Compaq Presario Desktop S5000NX

Chip: Intel Celeron 2.50 GHz Northwood, Single Core SSE2

Motherboard: P4G533LA Intel Chipset: 845GL BIOS: Award Software Ince Version 3.16

RAM: 768 DDR Sdram

Display Adapter: Intel 82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV graphics controller - total memory 64MB 1024x768 (32bit) (60Hz)

Ethernet : RealTeck RTL 8139/810x Family Fast Internet NIC

Tried booting with "-f"? It sometimes fixes the issue, if it doesn't, then boot from the install DVD and select terminal from the utilities menu. The type in this:

Replace "install" with your install partition name

rm /Volumes/install/System/Library/Extensions.mkext

-------------------------------------------------------------

That file is just kextcache. After removing, repair disk permissions on your install partition using Utilities>disk utility

Then restart, hope this helps!

I've tried your suggestion but it did not seem to work. Oddly enough, I couldn't get the machine to remove the file. Every time I gave it the 'rm' command, then checked the Library directory, I found that the file had not been removed. I even tried moving it and renaming it via the 'mv' command. I tried to hide it in the Fonts folder and was surprised to see the new file where I had put it, but the darn Extensions.mkext file still back in the library

Could the file be locked somehow?
