accorkie
Currently running 10.5.1 for about a year with not much problems. Looking into purchasing a new 1tb sata drive to replace my 250gb(Leo) IDE drive and need advice on whats the best/easiest way to transfer to the new HD. Options are to: 1. Keep running 10.5.1 2. Upgrading to 10.5.6 3. Wait for Snow Leopard Been a while since I've dealt with installing OSX so looking for the easiest way to transfer to the new drive and whether to upgrade or not. thanks in advance. UnaClocker
Download iATKOS 5i, and re-install when you get the new drive. Use the user migration tool to move your account over, it'll even bring your apps. It'll literally feel like the same machine. Then you'll be able to use Apple's software update to update to 10.5.6 without any crazy hoops to jump through. I have just about the same board as you (really is the same board, they just ganked a few components off my version), it runs beautifully, and it'll blow your mind how much faster it boots up. BTW, this is also the easiest way to transfer to the new drive. Migrate my 10.5.1 over to the new 10.5.6 drive and it'll transfer all my programs and files over? thanks for the info Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/149039-upgrade-to-1056-or-fresh-install-1056-or-wait-for-snow-leopard/#findComment-1064313 Share on other sites
Oxtie
Wasn't snow leopard suppose come out in the first quarter of 2009 (which is now)? I have a feeling it will be out in 1 month (2 at most)... I'm frankly waiting more for ZFS file system rather then the usual new features. The way I've read about it, it auto repairs disk errors in real time (hope that source is correct) EDIT: well, I liked that topic with "pre-updates" before official update... just don't know if same works for 10.5.6 (though i know 10.5.5 works with it) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/149039-upgrade-to-1056-or-fresh-install-1056-or-wait-for-snow-leopard/#findComment-1064531 Share on other sites
