Finally I have an installation that I consider more or less "golden". 10.5.6 was just introducing too many problems for me. I was able to get around the ethernet problem as I described earlier but I wasn't able to figure a workaround for my bluetooth issues.

I decided to do a fresh re-install and instead of updating from 10.5 to 10.5.6, I only updated to 10.5.5. Pay dirt! I was able to get everything working: Sound (stereo anyway), ethernet and bluetooth. I still had to tweak the BOOT123 CD to get the internet to work correctly. I didn't try my hacked BOOT123 version posted above (it uses the 10.5.6 version of IONetworkingFamily.text, so I was worried it might cause issues). Instead, I rebuilt the stock BOOT123 sans the RealTekR1000.kext using SlimBuild and that seems to be working great. The one that I posted above should also work, but haven't tested it under 10.5.5.

I still have two outstanding things that I need to figure out:

1). Outputting sound via the motherboard's digital out Not sure why I was having problems with this. It's working out of box on 10.5.5.

2). Have the bootloader automatically boot OS X from a default partition after a few seconds pause. Right now, I'm forced to at least hit return to get it to load OS X from the first partition on the boot disk. I want to use this Mac with MythTV as a DVR and need to come back up by itself after a power failure. I know this can be done, since my iDeneb install does exactly what I want. I just don't know how to set it up in this configuration.

Hey guys,

Well, I flashed my BIOS with the BitRip BIOS and booted fine into OSX using single user! Now I need to sort out how to change the kext being used so I can get my wireless network card and my audio card functioning. I believe to change the kext I'll need to reinstall, but I thought I could modify them on the fly. Anyhow, I wonder how snow kitty will run... hopefully with support for my radeon 4850.

I'm confused. Why do you need to boot into single user? I'm assuming that you mean using the "-s" boot flag. Just wondering why that was necessary?

Sorry. I don't have any experience with getting a wireless card to work. If all else fails, I would imagine an external wireless access point would work. Why do you need an audio card? Why aren't you using the on-board audio? Works fine for me once I upgraded to 5.5 or 5.6...

I assuming you are aware that the 4850 will only work with the VESA driver. I 'm definitely bummed on that front.

EDIT: Ah, I just realized snow kitty is snow leopard. Honestly, I know nothing about it other than its got a 64 bit kernel. Have you heard something to make you believe that the 4850 will be supported? If so, that would be awesome (I've got a 4870).

EDIT: Did some research on snow leopard last night and it does indeed sound like the 48xx's will be supported! Are you actually trying to install snow leopard on your Foxconn hackintosh? If you have any luck with your 4850, please let me know! I'm considering experimenting with this myself.

Yes Let us know about Snow Kitty.

Hey, by the way. I have done a $h!x load of research about installing 2 ati video cards to support 3 monitors. I have succesfully used graphic strings to combine the plists to make one big hex file. Both cards show up fine in the profiler. However, only one works while the other shows no display connected. I know the Nvidia guys have much success with theirs. I was wondering if you guys have tried to do the same?

PS. Using strings on my 3870's and the sleeping function is not working correctly.

Hey Guys,

Here is an update of my progress. I am up and running with full support except for the Radeon HD 4850 which is running in VESA 3 at 1920x1600x32. For those interested here is my process:

Installed Kalyway 10.5.2 with the following:

Kernel_Vanilla_92

Realtek Sigmatel (It doesn't work for ALC888, so don't install)

RealtekR1000

Zydas-ZD1211 (For Atheros AR5007UG USB Wifi Card)

AppleOnBoardPCATA (I don't know if it's needed)

AppleGenericPCATA (I don't know if it's needed)

AppleSMBIOS-27-Default

PCGenUSB_Fix (I don't know if needed it's, but likely)

Installed kalyway_10.5.3_ComboUpdate:

Followed the included instructions -

1)Install Kalyway_UpdCombo10.5.3.pkg - NO RESTART

2)Install kalyway_10.5.3_kernel.pkg - Picked Vanilla Kernel (993 I believe) - NOW RESTART

3)On Boot press F8 to bring up boot options and type: update -v

Installed Official Apple Update MacOSXUpd10.5.4.dmg:

Follow prompts and restart

Installed Official Apple Update MacOSXUpd10.5.5.dmg: BEFORE RUNNING UPDATE

1)Open Terminal and type: sudo -s

2)Type: while sleep 1; do rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext; done

3)Run update and before restart close out terminal

Now you should be up and running with 10.5.5. To set resolution do the following.

1)At the F8 boot option to see what mode are supported type: ?Video

2)Back at the command prompt type "Graphics Mode"="AAAAxBBBBx32"

Now search and download the great OSX86Tools_1.0.150 so you can get your audio up. Once you have OSX86Tools you'll need EP43_DS3L_Sound which has the kext for the ALC888 audio chip. Simply install the kext with OSX86Tools, restart, and you should have NIC, Wifi (if you have the usb adapter I do), and Audio!!!

Trlla and Geekusmaximus:

Firewire shows as visible and working but I don't have a drive to test it with yet. Do you guys have Firewire working? Specifically I'll need to get an multi-track audio card since there is no PCI in the new Macs.

I'll be trying 10.5.6 update and then Snow Kitty once I have it. I have noticed some stability issues, recently firefox 3.0 kept locking up my system for long periods. Note, I did install the Java update available from Apple Update. I think it might be a CPU setting in BIOS since I have everything enabled except C1E and EIST (Which was default off I believe).

My thanks to all the shoulders of giants I have stood on to get here!
