  1. Foxconn p45a-s Works perfectly

Hey Guys, Here is an update of my progress. I am up and running with full support except for the Radeon HD 4850 which is running in VESA 3 at 1920x1600x32. For those interested here is my process: Installed Kalyway 10.5.2 with the following: Kernel_Vanilla_92 Realtek Sigmatel (It doesn't work for ALC888, so don't install) RealtekR1000 Zydas-ZD1211 (For Atheros AR5007UG USB Wifi Card) AppleOnBoardPCATA (I don't know if it's needed) AppleGenericPCATA (I don't know if it's needed) AppleSMBIOS-27-Default PCGenUSB_Fix (I don't know if needed it's, but likely) Installed kalyway_10.5.3_ComboUpdate: Followed the included instructions - 1)Install Kalyway_UpdCombo10.5.3.pkg - NO RESTART 2)Install kalyway_10.5.3_kernel.pkg - Picked Vanilla Kernel (993 I believe) - NOW RESTART 3)On Boot press F8 to bring up boot options and type: update -v Installed Official Apple Update MacOSXUpd10.5.4.dmg: Follow prompts and restart Installed Official Apple Update MacOSXUpd10.5.5.dmg: BEFORE RUNNING UPDATE 1)Open Terminal and type: sudo -s 2)Type: while sleep 1; do rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext; done 3)Run update and before restart close out terminal Now you should be up and running with 10.5.5. To set resolution do the following. 1)At the F8 boot option to see what mode are supported type: ?Video 2)Back at the command prompt type "Graphics Mode"="AAAAxBBBBx32" Now search and download the great OSX86Tools_1.0.150 so you can get your audio up. Once you have OSX86Tools you'll need EP43_DS3L_Sound which has the kext for the ALC888 audio chip. Simply install the kext with OSX86Tools, restart, and you should have NIC, Wifi (if you have the usb adapter I do), and Audio!!! Trlla and Geekusmaximus: Firewire shows as visible and working but I don't have a drive to test it with yet. Do you guys have Firewire working? Specifically I'll need to get an multi-track audio card since there is no PCI in the new Macs. I'll be trying 10.5.6 update and then Snow Kitty once I have it. I have noticed some stability issues, recently firefox 3.0 kept locking up my system for long periods. Note, I did install the Java update available from Apple Update. I think it might be a CPU setting in BIOS since I have everything enabled except C1E and EIST (Which was default off I believe). My thanks to all the shoulders of giants I have stood on to get here!
  2. WHy wont any games run?!?!

Hi User555, We are going to teach you how to fish. Go to www.google.com and type in Direct X and OS X and you'll find your answer.

Hey Guys, Have either of you had any luck with getting wireless usb adapters to work, specifically Atheros AR5007UG Wireless Network Adapter?
  4. Foxconn p45a-s Works perfectly

Hey guys, Well, I flashed my BIOS with the BitRip BIOS and booted fine into OSX using single user! Now I need to sort out how to change the kext being used so I can get my wireless network card and my audio card functioning. I believe to change the kext I'll need to reinstall, but I thought I could modify them on the fly. Anyhow, I wonder how snow kitty will run... hopefully with support for my radeon 4850.
  5. Foxconn p45a-s Works perfectly

Hey Guys! Nice work with this board!! Maybe you can offer some insight? Initially I was unable to even install using Kalyway_10.5.2_DVD_Intel_Amd and I would get the PANIC (CPU0 caller 0x5a248b4): "ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin::buildCPUSPSSArray - got - PSS - data... etc". After playing around I disabled all CPU configuration settings except Execute Disable Bit which was set to enabled. From here I installed just fine and I tried a few different kernels and options but I still halt on boot at this: MAC Framework successfully initialized using 10485 buffer headers and 4096 cluster IO buffer headers I have read this is from not modding your BIOS, but before I do this I have found the posts below. I also plan to get retail copy of the new 10.5.6 once I confirm I can run it on this system. This appears to be BIOS related from all the posts on the Forum. So I have read through nearly all the OSX86 on Intel P45 chipset posts and near the end I came across these post by BitRip: Nov 27 2008, 01:07 PM "Hey Folks, I'm not doing so much with bios modding anymore because of the great solution from Mackerintel, Chameleon and Fassl to have a bootloader with DSDT override, so the biosmod is not needed anymore. Great work! Because some people are still doing it "the old" way and I was in a good mood I modded the latest bios for P5Q3. ;-) I don't have time to do all your requests. Sorry. Good luck with this one!" Jan 4 2009, 10:02 AM "Allthough it's not needed anymore to have modded BIOS with 10.5.6 and/or Chameleon Bootloader with DSDT override (or Netkas EFI v9), people are still asking for BIOS mods. So ok, for those people here is my modded BIOS 1702 for the P5Q3 Deluxe/WiFi. Good luck again." Have either of you had any luck running w/o modding your BIOS using a bootloader with DSDT override, and what about running 10.5.6? Also, I'm running a Radeon 4850 which I know is not supported and I'll buy a supported video card once I know I can run the system. Given it installed, and I expect should run in VESA 3 mode at least, could my issue be the video card? Thanks guys! 6. Hackitosh Vs. Macintosh

As I read on emulators.com regarding this years MacExpo: "But once the economy went south, Apple did not lower prices. I purchased the Gateway FX notebook in October for about $1200, less than half of a comparably equipped Macbook Pro. Around the same time Apple launched new models of notebooks without much regard to affordability. Steve Jobs didn't impress when he made statements along the lines of Apple not knowing how to make a good 500 dollar notebook and that they don't make computers for people who fly economy class." I fly economy. I build my own PCs, like my Quad Core w/ 24" monitor for under 1k. Mac Pro with the same specs , minus the monitor and a GPU card that is 2 years old: $3049!! Macs are over priced and have no performance GPU solution. This pricing is a bad choice since they could put out "pseudo-cloud" OS that could run on PC's for $300-400 bucks and likely make more given the margin on computers. Plus, they could make a killing on cases and those accessories to give that "apple touch". Aside from price, it is a part of the challenge. I'm a geek. Also, I have been developing games for Windows and the market on Apple is something I wanted to target since I saw this swell in popularity coming a few years back. But 3k pays for 1/4 of my art assets, and from a business point of view alone it doesn't make sense, but hey my company doesn't have a private jet. Just like {censored} DMR on games (I'm looking at you Epic... a hard kill date on a product a customer buys!! WTF), Apple needs to provide a mid-level Dual/Quad core, 2GB Ram, Radeon 4850 for about 1k. I could justify spending an extra $500 to by a monitor and the price would be Windows competitive if I didn't build my own. In the meantime I'll use my PURCHASED (if you can't afford $125 bucks you might be a lying thief, and should have the balls to walk into a BestBuy and steal if in a way that has some real risks, or get another job) copy of OS X on my PC until development is far enough along that I'll be able to make a ROI for a Mac. Anyways, here is to Steve Jobs and Apple's future, because my dad died of what is going to kill Steve
  7. New Search Platform

I attempted to do a simple search for anyone who has had success with a Foxconn p45a, yet the search results returns: Search Results You searched for: foxconn p45a Unfortunately your search didn't return any results. I know for a fact that this post/string exist because Google returned it and that is how I ended up here in the first place! Here is the link: Foxconn p45a-s Works perfectly Also if I select Post-Installation Discussion for my "Search Where" field and just use Foxconn for the query string I get returns that use Foxconn but not the above post. Also, if I search for the poster trlla I get their post, but if I search keyword Foxconn and trlla I get the same zero return message above. Anyhow, thought this info would help you track down some search bugs!
