freeza
Hi everyone. I'm not a Mac person at all, but a friend of mine owns an early 2006 model MacBook Pro and since i'm the resident "Tech Guy" he wanted me to install a new hard drive since his 80GB one was full. So I installed a 500GB hard drive, thinking I could just pop in an 10.4.6 Install DVD from another MacBook (not Pro). Of cousre, I got a message saying "This software cannot be installed on this computer." Unfortunately, my friend doesn't know where his original Install DVDs are. My question is, How can I go about getting OS X on this newly formatted drive? I can also get an Install DVD for Leopard from a black MacBook but i'm not sure it will work either. Any suggestions? Thanks! Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/148812-replacing-hard-drive-on-macbook-pro-questions/ Share on other sites
Tony Conte
Hmm I don't know the exact problem but I can suggest you to download an leopard DVD and check if it's working for Early 2006 MBP. I have macbook so I don't know. andsteele
If you are trying to use a DVD from a regular Macbook, it won't install on a Macbook Pro. You'll either have to find the original installation disks that came with the computer, or buy a Leopard installation disk. Also, when you have the disks. Make sure you format the drive correctly before the installation. Otherwise it will not show up when you insert the disk. When you boot up from the installation disk, select the disk utility and format the drive. alphamalie
You can use that installation disc, if you make a disc image using Disk Utility, then edit the Distribution file, of the same name, within the packages, and change the model identifier down the bottom of the file to MacBook1,1 or whatever yours is, then burn another disc... that's what I've done before.
