Hootch
According to efi-x: *Support is granted until 10.5.6. Future development by Apple for these cards is uncertain, hence a long term commitment to these card models is not advised. Naturally apple wouldn't be able to kick ATi support as all stock imacs run those. Or could they? Is it wise to build a hackintosh with a 3870 Radeon right now? Can I still expect support the coming three years? I probaply can, right. It's not like people here would give up. Hootch
Hey, I noticed there are no replies yet. Have I been a retard and were my searches not sufficient enough? After all, I couldn't find anything. And still can't. Sorry if I'm being a retard, I'm kinda new to all this. So yeah. Yours faithfully, Hootch Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/148607-the-future-of-ati-graphic-cards/#findComment-1052871 Share on other sites
Synaesthesia
Really hard to say, because Apple are not in the habit of announcing their hardware plans - everything is open to speculation.. Although Apple usually goes about 50/50 with ATI/nVidia, they have been leaning towards nVidia recently.... But ATI cards are still in wide usage in several Macs - the 2400 & 2600 Pro in the iMac, the 2600XT in the Mac Pro and the official 3870 Mac edition. Also the X1600 mobility... I'm sure Apple is not going to cease support of these cards in Snow Leopard, or we will see some very peeved Mac owners! So I think it's safe to build a hackintosh with the 3870!
