I'm tempted to build a OSx86 PC, but I'd like to know what exactly is different about the patched OS X images floating around. I've searched the net for the last two hours, but I can't find answers to the following questions:

1. What files have been patched and why?

2. If I had a PC with an Intel Core Solo/Duo processor, a stock Intel board, and on-board Intel graphics, do I still need the patches? With ATI graphics? In other words, if I replicate the components of the Intel MacBook Pro, iMac, or Mini, will OS X install unpatched? Can I expect everything to work (network, sound, CD/DVD, etc.)?

3. Aside from the patched files, are these images different from the Apple OS X 10.4 (Intel) DVD?

4. Can I use the Apple OS X DVD to install OS X on my PC? If not, why not?

Thanks.

Not 100% accurate but, in a rough way:

1. The files that have been patched are those encrypted files and related to EFI (which real macs use and standard PC's don't).

2. Yes, you still need the patches, because your PC hasn't EFI, hasn't a Mac firmware, hasn't the TPM module, etc. etc. In short, because it's not a real mac.

3. As far as I know, these images are just standard OS X DVD's modded to skip security verifications and leave room to patched files.

4. You can't, for the reasons mentioned above.
