kolosus
Ok. I have the same problem. I've installed OS X on my laptop after wrangeling with it for a few days and loads of help from this forum. But when I first booted the computer with my minty new install it took me to the screen where it transfers stuff from another mac, time machine, another partition or nothing.... My problem is just the same as above. I seem to be stuck in an endless loop! I say I dont want to transfer and then it waits for about a min or two and then takes me back to the first screen where it wants to know what country I'm located in... I've even tried the other options to see if it'll lead me away from the transfer wizard and then somehow let me out of actually transfering something. But nothing. I'm on a Dell Latitude D610. Unsure what kind of mother board it has but it's got an intel chip running it for sure. CPU: Intel Pentium M 1.8 Graphics: Intel Corporation Mobile 915GM/GMS/910GML Express Graphics Controller RAM: 2GB Sound: Sigmatel AC'97 Wireless: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection (rev 05) There is a nic card on the laptop's mother board... but I turned it off in the BIOS. Intel something or another. The sound works. At first when it started and the man started singing his goobly gook song I was thrilled... But after going through the loop about 50 times and hearing him sing his song the same number of times I'm in the mood to not only throttle him but to also annialate his family. Someone throw some light this way. Thanks in advance folks. Write down the following commands /sbin/mount -uw [Click enter, wait for "root#:"] touch /var/db/.AppleSetupDone (no space but point before "A" letter) [Click enter, wait for "root#:"] passwd root [Click enter] System will ask You for password. Chose any password you gonna to enter Leopard with. Then submit this password again, when it ask you for submission. Voala. You're in. kolosus
Ok. I just tried that. -s Goes just as it should leaving me at the command prompt. #/sbin/mount -uw Gives me the lines root_device on / (hfs, local, read-only, journaled) devfs on /dev (devfs, local) fdesc on /dev (fdesc, union) Then I go on to the next command... #touch /var/db/.AppleSetupDone [capitalization paid attention to] Gives me the line touch: /var/db/.AppleSetupDone: Read-only file system Then I go on to the next command # pass root this last command gives me an error. It says pass command not found or something similar. Did I put it in right? Was that a typo and so the command wasn't given right? I'm still stuck at the welcome loop. kolosus
Duh! I knew that! passwd! Despite the flaw in my previous reply post the end doesn't seem to be any better. # passwd root Gives me the error.... launch_msg(): Socket is not connected passwd: Unable to open Directory node with name /Local/Default. Unable to open node. Seems that it didn't work. I'm still stuck in the welcome loop. Is it possible to issue a command where I bypass the welcome screen? I have linux on the machine too. If needed, I can access the file system and make some changes on it. Plus it seems that there is no /Local folder in my osx install's file system at all. You'll find the list of files/directories below... These are what is is my root of my OSX install.
