530sCheapMac
So. I have a Dell Studio Slim, which I am hoping to turn into a Hackintosh. I am currently downloading the iATKOS 5i image, and had a few questions. #1: My mobo has 4 SATA connectors on it. Labeled SATA0 (HDD), SATA1 (optical drive), SATA4 (no cable/empty), SATA5 (no cable/empty). SATA0 is connected to my 640 GB hard drive, which is below an empty 3.5" slot. If I add a second hard drive that will be the primary disk I install OS X onto, should I switch the cable from SATA0 to the new hard drive (to be mac one) and connect the old one to 4 or 5? #2: I have a blue and Orange SATA cable Blue goes to HDD, orange to optical. where can I buy a cable for the new HDD, and what color doe it need to be? does it matter? #3: I am currently using my HDMI out port (integrated) with a HDMI to DVi cable for my monitor. Will I stilll be able to use this configuration? (does OS X support HDMI ports?) #4: If I choose to install Mac OS X on the disk that Vista (Home Premium 64 bit) is already on, will I have to diddle with the partitons in order to install OS X? I would prefer not to have to reformat the whole disk, I cannot back it up as of now) If you can help me out with any of these, I would be very grateful... if no one helps, i will bump Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/147638-sata-hdmi-dual-hard-drives/ Share on other sites

carlusius
1: you can but its not necessary, the boot devices are NOT set by the cable order on your mobo. 2: color does not matter, it only makes tracking your cables easier, any SATA cable should work. 3: not sure. 4: you don't need to format the whole disk, just partition and you won't loose your data, a backup is always recommended. Use Gparted live cd to partition it. Ask on IRC or google it if you want immediate answer. you "bumped" less than an hour after you created this topic.
