shavex
I have recently acquired some old machines... how old? Pentium 4 1.8 GHz ATI 128 Pro graphics card 1 GB of RAM 40 GB HD (ATA) I researched and discovered that some old Mac's had that same card! Back when Jaguar was around. So this gave me partial hope that I could get Mac up and running on here. I have tried -iDeneb v5 -iAtkos v5 -and some various Tiger distros (e.g. BrazilMac) I also found a forum for real Mac's trying to force their ATI cards to use leopard while most of them have success with Tiger. Which distro should I abandon ship on finding a Leopard distro and pursue the Tiger installs or is it possible to do with Leopard? Reveeen
I am not sure what you are asking. It really doesn't matter if you are running Tiger, or Leopard, you ideally want CI/QE (core image, quartz extreme) the operating system "needs" it to work properly. ATI 128 Pro Graphics were {censored} when new, and they certainly did not get better with age, to do this successfully you are going to have to replace it. Not all P4 computers from this time frame were created equal. It seems to depend on if the company manufacturing the computer had a "bonus" model available, or not. I have had acceptable results from Acer computers, the Dells (unless they were the afore mentioned "bonus" model using rimms for memory), were bog slow, and really weren't worth the time and effort. For me, this is my typical install (Tiger) on a computer of this era: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...mp;#entry735525 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/147602-from-new-to-old/#findComment-1045938 Share on other sites
