Tony Stark
I've got iATKOS 5i and I've had it running before (It decided to somehow update itself!) And I've re-installed it, I install nothing but this: Main System PC_EFI V9 AppleDecrypt.kext or whatever it is Speedstep a, tried b, then both at once NTFS-3G Thats it, I don't install a kernel, because I was told you didn't have to use one, as I wanted the most vanilla system possible If I've missed something or done something wrong, please tell me what I need to do. Thanks in Advance! Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/146724-kernel-panic-problem-possibly/ Share on other sites
Lanceomni
If I've missed something or done something wrong, please tell me what I need to do. Your system specs and what exactly the problems is. If its a KP do you have the report or any info on what you were doing when it happened. Tony Stark
I ended up just removing iATKOS until I could figure out what was going on, all I can really say is that the Apple Boot Screen spun for a while, and then had the little circle with the line through it pop up. Heres my system specs! CPU: Q6600 - Know that works Motherboard: P5K SE - Know that works Memory: 4GB DDR2 400MHz HDD: All E-SATA Thats about all the basic stuff, I know that it all works because I've had iATKOS 5i working before on it, just had a system update hickup and it screwed up my install Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/146724-kernel-panic-problem-possibly/#findComment-1040118 Share on other sites
Michael-on-a-mac
Probably not your immediate problem but the 4GB of memory can cause issues, try limiting it to 2048mb with boot flags Also what are the last couple lines from the console before it crashes? Does it list the kext that is causing the problem? It should now display text instead of graphics and will hang on a particular line. -v Verbose Mode displays information during the boot process instead of the graphics. -x Safe Mode Loads only the basic kexts (drivers) Michael-on-a-mac is correct about 4GB of memory but this is an issue which can most likely be resolved after you are in OSX. Tony Stark
kk, I'll install it later today and post what happened Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/146724-kernel-panic-problem-possibly/#findComment-1040230 Share on other sites
Tony Stark
Ok, I did the ERROR: Firewire unable to...... blah blah, But it got me thinking... could it be that its not picking up the boot device? Because when I did the iATKOS dvd startup in verbose mode, it had that it found the boot device or something, a thing that doesn't come up until after what it hangs at :S Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/146724-kernel-panic-problem-possibly/#findComment-1040320 Share on other sites
Beerkex'd
The Firewire error is not important - if it's the one about defaulting to full secure mode. If you boot with -f -x -v (-f refreshes the kernel extension cache) Do you still get a KP? Tony Stark
Its keeps locking up at the Firewire thing and not moving, maybe you could point me to what I should actually tick, I usually tick these ones: Main System PC_EFI V9 AppleDecrypt.kext or whatever it is Speedstep a, tried b, then both at once NTFS-3G Now, I always remember to flag the partition OSX is on as active, so its not that Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/146724-kernel-panic-problem-possibly/#findComment-1040486 Share on other sites
Lanceomni
If you have the option to turn Firewire (ieee 1394) off in the BIOS give that a try. You can also boot into Single User Mode and remove the kexts which are causing problems. Tony Stark
Ok, all it's doing now is going "Still Waiting for Root Device" :S Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/146724-kernel-panic-problem-possibly/#findComment-1041666 Share on other sites
Lanceomni
i'll try it, probably getting a macbook this week anyway Well a hack is a "project". Not that I think a retail-install hack can't perform just as well but I think a great deal of people are doing this just to see if they can. Its fun, thats why I do it. Tony Stark
Ummm... so why would it be saying "Still waiting for root device"? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/146724-kernel-panic-problem-possibly/#findComment-1041688 Share on other sites
Beerkex'd
Please try to search before asking basic questions. http://lmgtfy.com/?q=Still+Waiting+For+Root+Device Place your hardware specs in your signature to make it easier to help you. You can find complete specs for your motherboard if you type your motherboard name and model into google.
