I was using 10.4.3 and it was working fine, I upgraded to 10.4.5 and AOL crashes, I install 10.4.5 again from a bootable DVD and still does the same... I upgraded to 10.4.6 to see if that will fix it and didn't work. Wen to the Console Log and this is what I get:

Apr 10 08:41:19 new-users-computer /Applications/AOL/Contents/MacOS/AOL: connect No such file or directory

Apr 10 08:41:21 new-users-computer /Applications/AOL/Contents/MacOS/AOL: connect No such file or directory

Apr 10 08:41:22 new-users-computer crashdump[352]: AOL crashed

Apr 10 08:41:23 new-users-computer crashdump[352]: crash report written to: /Users/newuser/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/AOL.crash.log

Anyone knows how to fix ths problem?

Thanks,

Yeah I've got the same problem, exact same error in Console. I'm using 10.4.6 (JaS patched) on an Opteron 165 with 1GB of RAM. After the initial Install it crashes while its "Upgrading database", then after that it'll complete the Opening splash screen, then you see the "Welcome" screen pop up quick, then AOL Setup window pops up, then crashes. I'm thinking something to do with the lack of the Apple Modem thats in every one of their computers? Anyone with other ideas? I'd like to get this working (trying to assist my grandfather over the phone...)

Here are some more detailed logs -- the actual CrashReporter Log... at least the first part..

Except maybe for USB modems, Hackintosh won't work with dial-up modems.

If using AOL on DSL or cable internet, be sure to set to LAN mode.

Also, find the AOL.app in the Applications folder. Right-click on the app and select Get Info. The check the Run using Rosetta box.

But if I remember, I tried to use the AOL client because they have made it partially usable for free and it crashed on me as well.

no it doesnt even get that far... I dont even have the chance to connect (I'd be using TCP/IP as I have cable internet). It pops the AOL Setup window up (where you'd normally choose the type of connection/etc) and it crashes, it never completely draws the AOL Setup window... the window just appears then boom, crash. I might go back and try 10.4.3 to see if it works. As for Rosetta, apparently this version doesnt even give me the chance to change it (via the main .app or in the MacOS folder). Version 10.3.7 of the AOL Client (as downloaded from AOL.com.

Just tried an install. Hangs on startup and needs to be force-quit.

System.log gives error about Rosetta and video:

Dec 3 13:37:27 Intel kernel[0]: IOUserClient: failing rosetta access to ATIR500GLContext

Can't change to Rosetta because the app is already PowerPC only, not Intel. It runs under Rosetta by default.
