On the Hackintosh - if I start Screen Sharing and File Sharing - they work for about a minute or two then stop functioning as they should. For instnace. Enabling File Sharing and Screen Sharing on the Hackintosh causes the computer to pop up on the side bar in finder as Hackintosh, as it should. I can login and browse files, and click screen sharing to do so. After a couple of minutes, Hackintosh still appears from my Macbook, but when I try and connect it says "Connection Failed". The only way I can connect to it is by using the IP address (which would suggest some kind of DNS problem, or hosts lookup). It is the same if I am trying to connect out from my Hackintosh. It works fine to begin with but then after a couple of minutes only by IP Address. I did have all my computers put into the host file. I have tried it with an empty host file as well. Same thing. I am hoping someone can shed some light on the situation as its driving me nuts lol. Many thanks. stuppy Posted January 10, 2009 Author Share Posted January 10, 2009 Right a bit more info. I have my systems set to DHCP with Manual IP Address usually. These all connect through an Airport Extreme router. Hackintosh is wired, and other computers are wireless. I have a Macbook and a Macbook Pro - these have no problems. My /etc/hosts file is configured with all my computers hostnames and static IPs All my main testing is from the Macbook and Macbook Pro - but I did confirm the issue on the Macbook Pro - so this isn't a problem with the Macbook. So - the problem : When enabling File Sharing and Screen Sharing ON Hackintosh - displays Hackintosh on my Macbook, on the Finder sidebar under Shared. I can immediately connect to it - all volumes on the Hackintosh appear and I can click the Screen Sharing button and control the Hackintosh. The same can be said if I am connecting from my Hackintosh to my Macbook. Works fine. If I disconnect from the Hackintosh and leave it a minute - when I then click on the hackintosh on the sidebar of my Macbook, it won't connect - simply saying "Connection Failed". This is not the case ON the Hackintosh. I can continue to see the volumes freely with no apparent problem. If I disable and re-enable File Sharing and Screen Sharing on the Hackintosh, I can then see the Hackintosh for a minute or two on my Macbook, before it finally disappears. Now - this doesn't seem to be a problem with the Network card (built in Realtek) - apart from this problem I have not encounted other problems (internet/email etc works). And, I can connect to the Hackintosh using the IP address of the computer - this works for mounting AFP voumes and screen sharing. So to me it looks like a problem with a specific part of OSX's networking - resolving local hostnames? Or, perhaps Bonjour - since I think Bonjour is the base of Apples Networking? Other things I have tried : Using a blank Hostfile Using Full DHCP on all computers Fixing Permissions on Hackintosh Fixing Permissions on other computers. I really would appreciate some guidance - anyone have any ideas that I could try? Many thanks. When it comes back online my Macbook can see the Hackintosh for a short time before it drops again. Going to focus my efforts on the Base Station. Am going to start looking at the network drivers on the Hackintosh. Installing Psystars Realtek R1000.kext driver fixed all my problems. Computers now display correct.
